Nadia was finishing just a light bit of makeup and looked herself over. She let out a rush of air. Never in her life had she felt less confident in what she was wearing then right now. In how she looked and this horrendous volume of butterflies were swarming around her stomach. It was nearly time for her to leave for this date. She kept picking up her phone to cancel, however she would set it down and told herself no.
This was her freaking life, and she needed to live it how she had been. Mythical mate situation or not. She needed to know how real this was for herself. Nadia didn't want to miss this chance either. His name was Vincent, she met him at a convention last month and talked with him for a while. He lived and worked out east. Since that was where Nadia was hoping to go it seemed like a sound choice at the time.
Now she felt nauseous, and it wasn't seeing Vincent that was making her feel this way. She was starting to get so angry, each time she looked herself over Xyle popped into her head. For the love of god she barely knew the man. Why was what he would say if he saw her dolled up the reason she felt this way? Nadia was refusing the word mate. She stood looking herself over again.
"Get your shit together." She said pointing to herself in the mirror. Her hair was perfect, nice waves and full. Her make up light, and not trashy. She hated caked on and fake, just a little touch. She was wearing a very deep red dress. It tied behind her neck, the back was a little lower but not obscene or anything. The front neck line was a deep V just offering a bit of view of her cleavage. She actually moved to adjust it and stopped.
"No, damn it. It's fine, stop." She scolded herself. They were going to a nice upscale restaurant. She was not going in jeans. She'd planned out what she was going to wear prior. Now she felt nervous in it. Turning she went to the door and put a hand on the handle. She paused and annoyed that she was listening, cracked the door open. No one was in the hall, making an irritated sound at her antics she marched across to her bedroom and shut the door.
"Okay." She said to herself and went to her closest. She pulled out a white button up coat that was designer. The buttons square and black, the collar on it was crisp with a belt. She put that on and tied it. Her hair nearly looked black with the white coat. Reaching down she pulled out a pair of sleek black high heels. Knowing it was best to get going, even if it was early she grabbed her phone and clutch from the bed, then left her room. Her heels in her hand.
Nadia came down the hall and into the living area. She sat down on the sofa closest to the door. She was slipping on her heels, the straps thin over the top of her foot. She was putting on the second when a voice spoke and nearly made her scream.
"You are quite dressed up. Just where do you think you're going?" Nadia's head snapped up and she met the light green gaze. She felt her heartbeat against her ribs but looked back down finishing putting on her heels.
"To live my life. Don't think you are going to dictate how I live Xyle. I have plans." She said and stood up. She was really glad that she was wearing the coat now and it hid her. His head tipped slightly from where he was leaning against the kitchen entrance. She had missed him at first. His eyes moved over her and she fought really hard to not check herself. The edge of the red dress was just lower than the coat she wore. It stopped lower on her thigh but higher than the knee. Now it felt to damn short with the way he was looking at her.
"You mean the date you mentioned before." His eyes met hers again. Nadia once more found herself fighting to not fidget with her clothes, and a slight blush. He did this to her, it wasn't fair. She was trying here with this date, she didn't go out much to be honest. She was more of a homebody. She was not staying in this house awkwardly with him here.
"I told you, you appearing doesn't change anything. If you think I'm going to go all simpering fool and throw myself at you with this mate thing you are dead wrong." Nadia snapped and he raised an eyebrow rather strongly.
"Never expected you to." Xyle said, no he'd seen how hard his brother had to chase Lillian for her attention. He really did not expect this to be different. What he was trying to deal with was the dangerous feeling his animal had right now. He had a very tight grip on it though. He needed to play this smart, stopping her was not going to work nor work in his favor. Didn't mean he wasn't going to do something.
"Good." Nadia said pulling out her couple keys from the clutch. She moved toward the door opening it. She was so aware of his stare on her it felt like a touch. The time he was gone seemed to be making whatever this was worse. Like now that he showed back up, something was zipping tighter inside of her. The awareness of him growing.
"I'd advise you not go Nadia." Xyle commented, managing to just keep the growl from his voice. His gaze moved over her backside, she had some damn nice legs. Shapely and even with the coat he could tell what she wore was very flattering to her figure. He wanted to see just what the dress looked like. Mainly because it would give a really good view of her body he bet. He was looking at his mate, what else did you expect to be on his mind? It was growing worse, this need to touch and claim. She had read the stories, did she think he was going to react differently than his brother had with Lillian?
"I advise you not do something stupid." She shot back looking at him half turned. He didn't move from where he was even if he wanted to. If he moved, he'd grab her, grab her and not let go. He could feel his nails biting into his arm. He might look calm but he was not. His mate was about to go out to another male. If she knew anything about werewolves, she'd know how foolish that was to throw in his face.
"That depends completely on you Nadia. Just think about what you are about to do. You let that male touch you in any way you're going to find out how vicious I can be. You are mine, and you've no idea the monster I keep on a tight leash." He was being very honest, he would definitely do something. She was his mate, and possessive he was. Jealousy was not something he wanted to tangle with either.
"I'm not property." Nadia snapped and eyed him. His gaze was dark meeting hers.
"I didn't say you were property. You are mine as much as I am yours. I'm just warning you one more time. Your denial of what this is, does not change anything." Nadia turned and stepped out the door. Yes well, for her this date was going to tell her just how screwed she was. Plus this was still her life, and she couldn't very well stand up her date. One it wasn't nice, and two he had some influence out east. She couldn't let her no show jeopardize where she wanted to go. Even if this date didn't have sparks flying, besides Nadia didn't believe in love at first sight anyways.
"It's a simple date Xyle. Not marriage and not to sleep with someone for money." She tried to keep her anger at his insinuations prior from her voice. She failed a little, Xyle just watched her with narrowing eyes as she stepped out the door.
"Here we get to know people before tying them to you. Maybe you could learn something." With that Nadia shut the door with a bit more force. Xyle stood straighter, his eyes turned black and he had to take several very deep breaths. He slowly unfolded his arms and looked down at the blood that trickled from where his claws had dug, changing from human nails.
"Let's play then Nadia." He said darkly and turned back to the kitchen. He passed the computer shoving the lid down not wanting to see what it was typing at the moment. There were several bags sitting in her kitchen. He went over to them and pulled out a few items, normal items. New clothes and such, he and his brother had pretty much used their voice to tell people to give them things from the stores they stopped at after Nadia left. Who needed money when you had psychic ability. The people here were ill equipped to deal with it.
He saw how she was dressed and figured if he was going to follow her he needed to play the part too. Psychic gifts or not, you couldn't just go arounded fucking with people's heads and not expect it to come back and bite you in the ass. Persuasion didn't always stick with people long. Xyle also went to a far different bag and pulled out a case there. He looked in it deciding just how many he wanted on him after dressing. There was a sharp set of blades in there. Xyle was really good with blades, especially throwing them.
Xyle snapped it closed and took the whole thing with him toward her bathroom. Couldn't very well stay in the same damn clothes. He didn't think that Nadia was actually going to do anything with the male she was heading toward. At least right away, it was the man he wanted to watch most. Xyle was sure like him she would no longer respond to the opposite sex well. Not once you met your mate.
He was going to quickly clean and change then follow her. She was absolutely wrong if she thought he'd just wait here while she was out. No, he'd see just what that male was then decide how he was going to handle it. One thing was for sure, Xyle would make it so that this male got the message to stay away from her. He had a strong suspicion this date was probably the old turning point in her life or story. He was going to make sure it was no longer an avenue, no matter the action he had to take.
