Chapter 34: The Vampire's Domain

The armored gnomes, each wielding a long-bladed spear and a spiked shield, glanced at each other. It was clear they had never encountered a situation like this before.

The one who appeared to be a leader by the gold trim on her armor turned back to the party. "I'm sorry, what?"

Durri crossed his arms and nodded. "Indeed, noble soldier. Your scouts or whatever they are ambushed us in the night. Though they fought mightily, their steeds were vanquished in the battle, and we soon overpowered them with our tremendous strength."

Durri was trying to emulate Hudson's bombast while keeping the barbarian's occasional insanity out of the speech. He felt it would be a good balance for this situation.

The guards glanced at the gnomes who had led the trio to their gate. "So... you're not trying to ransom these worthless slugs, then?"
