Chapter 34: Rally Cry

Vesta shot the delegation guard square in the chest and he dropped like a potato in a bucket.

“No!” Ruptar yelled, diving for Vesta. “Grab her!”

Vesta took aim at the robed delegate, but Tanner took him down in a tackle that would have had the football stands on their feet and cheering. Ruptar threw Tanner across a table and into a group of the delegation guards running towards Vesta. As she raised her weapon again, Vesta caught the sight of her father landing an impressive right hook into the jaw of Ruptar. As the delegate stumbled back, he yelled a command at his guards and they covered his escape. More guards and soldiers poured into the room.

Vesta began firing as quickly as her weapon let her. Two guards fell groaning in pain, but lay immobile.

“Grab their weapons,” Vesta cried. “The blue and green lasers don’t hurt us!”
