Dad never liked Paul, and Crystal knew he'd not allow them to be alone; it was too dangerous with Ruby's injury. At first, she thought his dislike was because Paul was a cop, but now she wondered if it was something else. Like recently, Paul had lied about going to the Owens' party. If they had known... and that Kade was a cop, then she would've made certain Kade stayed with her on the dance floor a little longer and Ruby wouldn't have gotten shot. Crystal put the teapot in the dishwasher when she noticed Kade studying her. His black hair curled above his chocolate eyes. "What?"

"I'm trying to figure you out." He leaned against the table.

Instead of answering, she took a moment to breathe. Her fingers brushing Rogue, the USB with the rootkit on the silver chain around her neck. She never went anywhere without it.

Never knew when an opportunity to use it would present itself.
