BEAST

Crystal guessed her face burned fire-red as she rushed to her car. A quick glance at the time on her dashboard told her she had ten minutes to meet Kade outside the stadium. The evenings playing with Kade online made her excited to hear his voice or see his screen name online. And she couldn't get the image of his concern about Simon, Devon, and Luke out of her mind.   


She put the car in reverse and mashed on the gas.   


With one hand on the wheel, she jerked opened the glove box and removed Ruby's makeup bag. Then she stuffed the Maxmoore's papers inside.  


When a car honked at her, she swerved back into her lane.  


"Sorry." She held a hand up in apology.  


At a red light she rummaged through her sister's makeup, deciding on a pink tint gloss and mascara.  


She ran her hand through her hair as a garbage truck clattered in the distance.  


Police directed traffic and she squeezed into a parking space at four minutes after eight.
