Chapter 14

"Where are the maids?!" Grandfather asked looking extremely happy. It was like a Christmas day for him.

"Why is grandpa over rejoicing about the arrival of Calhoun? He's not the only grandson here," Matt whispered to the ears of his brother Noah.

"He's like a god in this family. I remember the last time I came back from Italy. No one organized a party for me but now when it comes to that bastard everyone treats him like a King. He's not the only one who owns a company." Noah whispered back to his brother, feeling so irritated over the situation.

"Why do they care so much about him anyway?" Matt asked in a low voice.

Rosa, who was the only child of Bianca overheard the brothers whispering and said in a loud voice, "I think, we care so much about him because he works hard for it. He deserves every love and care we give to him. He isn't someone who sits around doing nothing, claiming to have a growing company. He is simply the best, don't you think, Noah."

Noah knew Rosa was trying to draw the attention of the others to him. And he couldn't allow it. Grandfather was over-supportive of Calhoun, the Golden boy despite his bad act. They all loved him! Despite his cold attitude, their grandparents couldn't get enough of him! Yet, the devil could make someone's life difficult with a snap of his fingers. Noah simply hated it! He hated Calhoun, the Lawson's golden boy.

Everyone turned their attention to him after Rosa's annoying speech. Noah was smart though, he wouldn't let Rosa ruin his image in front of everyone who worshipped Calhoun. He morphed his face into a frown and turned to Rosa

"What are you saying little Rose? I'm happy to see my brother after all these years. It will be good to see him again. Don't you think so too, Matt?" he said with a fake smile on his lips.

"Yes, it will be good to see him again," Matt added through clenched teeth. Being here was like torture for them. Calhoun was everything they could never be and that made them jealous of him, just like their mother.

Rosa turned her gaze away from the two brothers, satisfied with the way she had made them shut their mouths. They were really annoying. They went around hating Calhoun for no reason like it was his fault they were failures!

Matt and Noah are Benson Lawson's sons. They both had companies they were running but none was as successful as Calhoun's group of companies.

When it came to wealth and power, Calhoun was the king!

Although they were all of the same age brackets, they had different brain power and confidence. Among the three of them, Calhoun was the youngest but he ran the biggest company in the country.

The last of the Lawsons was Thomas, his children were still too little and not up to age to brag about wealth and power. They were in the nursery. His wife was also not like Lily, she never paid attention to the decision about power or wealth in the family. She had always craved for a simple life but unfortunately for her, she got forced by her parents to marry one of the Lawson's sons.

"I asked for the maids, didn't I?" Grandfather repeated his question. He hated the fact that his family was divided. They pretended to care about one another. All they wanted was fame and power.

The maids hurried into the living room, not wanting to keep such an important man waiting.

"Are the table set?" Grandfather asked.

"Yes Master, all is ready," the chief maid answered, head bowed low.

"Okay, get all the workers ready. I want them standing beside each chair in the dining room before my Precious boy arrives," he beams with excitement.

"Alright Sir, consider it done," The chief maids replied. She walked to the dining room where she gave the necessary command to the rest of the workers.

After two long hours of waiting, the front door seemed to refuse to open. Grandmother was starting to get worried. She shifted on her seat, tugging her husband by the sleeve and she whispered, "Are you sure he's coming?"

"Of course, he would come. He said he had something very important to discuss with us. That means he's coming," Her husband assured her.

She scooted back into her chair, sighing in relief, "I hope he comes. I really have missed my boy," She mumbled.

Thomas Lawson, who had been silent throughout the long wait, saw the worry lines on his mother's face. He took her hands in his and squeezed them gently, "don't worry mother, he'll surely come," he said smiling. She returned his smile and held on to his hand for comfort. Thomas on the other hand understands how much his mother loved Calhoun. It was almost the same as the amount of love she had for their father.

The both of them showered Calhoun with so much love and affection just like the way they had loved his father. The boy had replaced the bastard of a father he had in the hearts of his grandparents. They had others sons, daughters, grandsons, and granddaughters but they acted like Calhoun was the only one they had! To make it worst, the boy himself thought he had the world at his feet! Imagine the audacity of gathering up all the family members and making them wait for hours only to hear whatever cursed news he had to give them.

A large number of the family wished, something terrible could just happen to him and they could move on with their lives. It wasn't fair on anyone that Calhoun was favored over everyone. It didn't matter if you were an uncle or an aunt; or even a niece and nephew; —whenever Calhoun opened his mouth, whatever he said stood.

"Home sweet home!"

Calhoun's voice filled the room and like some true god, the whole place went silent.
