Chapter 48: Reuniting Best Friends

Gwen looked at her phone, sitting in the garden and contemplating what she was going to tell her best friend. She hadn’t talked to him in a while, and she had rehearsed what she was going to say multiple times in her head during the time she hadn’t spoken to Matt.

She finally hit her contacts button on her screen and touched his name, calling him. Her fingers ghosted over her bottom lip before she tapped on it, waiting for him to answer. If her heart was still beating, it would have been racking itself against her ribcage right now but all it did was sit in silence.

“Hey!” Matt sounded more than excited to see her name come across his phone’s screen.

“Hey,” Gwen smiled and peered up when a few petals from wisterias above her head, which were growing along a trellis, fluttered down onto her.

“God, I thought I lost you,” Matt’s voice came out worried.

Gwen giggled and sat back on the bench she was sitting on, “You’ll never lose me.”
