Chapter 43: I Am Late

"Come in!" Aeron yelled out. I was so concentrated, I didn't even hear the knock.

"Sorry, I'm late." Renaud entered and walked over toward us. "Why are you two sitting so close?"

My whole body tensed at his low threatening tone.

"What do you want? There's only one couch." Aeron continued to flip through the paperwork, ignoring Renaud's icy glare. "Grab a stack of paper and join us."

After a moment of pause, Renaud grabbed a pile of parchment off the table and made his way over to the couch, squeezing himself in between us. I scooched as far as I could to the arm rest, but Aeron didn't budge. Renaud glared at him, shooting him with imaginary lightning from his eyes, but Aeron ignored him like usual and just flipped through his pile of parchment.

Renaud conceded on his attempt to mentally murder Aeron and sat back on the couch, ruffling through his papers. Renaud adjusted himself to get comfortable, and brushed his leg against mine by accident.
