Chapter 61: Curse the Heavens

I sobbed and cried loudly, rocking back and forth, clutching the letter to my chest. My last hateful words to Renaud rang loudly in my ears. I covered them and shook my head.

"It can't be." I cried with heart wrenching pain. I looked at the blurry Prince Raulyn. "Tell me I'm dreaming." My voice was but a whisper. "Tell me he's okay."

"I'm sorry, My Queen." The sound of a sword unsheathing behind me didn't even startle me. I sat and waited as the blade touched my neck. "I hope you understand my reason for doing this." I clutched the letter even tighter to my chest and cried rivers. "I know how much the King loved you, please don't make me hurt you." He waved his hand in the air and the knight sheathed his sword. "Board her windows and lock her in her bedchambers. Make sure she still gets the treatment and respect of a Queen."
