It was the third day since Rem didn't go to her school.
Her parents were frustrated from this rebellious behavior and were fighting with each other, once again. They blamed one another for not raising their sole child properly as both of them were always so busy with their office work.
But for Rem, it wasn't anything new so she simply sneaked back into her room and turned her old PC on.
She was tired of everything, and after discovering a tremendous amount of thrilling survival games on the internet, she believed she had found her ultimate goal, thus devoting herself completely to death.
Her friends didn't like her as they hated her interest in gore stuff. Her teachers also ignored her as she wasn't that bright of a student.
In the end, she gave up on hope from everyone. An absolute outcast discarded by society.
Focusing on the current issue, she pressed the CPU button for the second time but it didn't start.
"Ugh! Not again. Damn this old fart!" She kicked the old system out of frustration but it still didn't respond, making her take a deep sigh before she goes on a search for the toolbox hidden underneath the pile of junk created by her.
It took her some time, but she finally finds it.
"Time to fix this junk."
The computer was gifted by her late grandmother on her twelfth birthday. But it had gone so old over the years that the spare parts are no more available in local stores and even if they were, her parents wouldn't give money to her as otherwise, she will continue her gaming again.
After multiple attempts and online research, she learned to repair the computer on her own and isolated herself completely from the outside world.
She went back into the kitchen to fetch a bottle of water before her next round of repairing begins and immediately rushed towards her room to avoid that cold stare from her mother, who was sitting at the dining table with her hands holding her head.
With no intention of comforting her, Rem rather rudely slams the door behind with a leg and steps inside while sipping water as she heads towards her computer.
Walking front while dodging the piles of laundry and trash scattered everywhere, her balance accidentally shifts to one end, making her toe twist in the worst possible way and she immediately falls on the dirty mat floor straight flat.
"Argh!!!!"
She groans in pain, but her voice dampens when a threatening crackle noise welcomes her thereafter.
Turns out, the water has spilled all over the broken CPU.
Multiple sparks began to ignite as the system overheated.
Rem panics and instantly tries to pick the bottle off the circuit before its plastic breaks into the fire.
Her body still limp on the floor, she forces herself to raise a little by the elbow and pick up that problematic bottle, but unfortunately by doing so her hand accidentally touches a wet old wire in the process, and an immense amount of electricity rushes into her body causing instant painful death right at that spot amidst the ocean of trash.
------------
Rem maunders deep into the blank void of darkness when suddenly a faint noise calls her from behind. She turns around and runs endlessly as the voice becomes clearer with every step she puts forward until her eyes wide open and she gasps followed by fast shallow breaths and coughs.
The greetings of bright sunshine falling right on her face forces her to keep wincing at its intensity until those facial nerves hurt.
Perplexed by this weird warm feeling, Rem roofs her forehead with one hand and rubs her eyes with another to see where is she in this absurd afterlife.
Astoundingly, the afterlife looked much more fascinating than she'd imagined. The surface of water splashing in the vast swimming pool as the hot breeze ran carelessly in the humid air. The sky has never been so perfectly blue from what Rem would always see in her city town.
Lying on the cold gritty floor for a long time, her body found it hard and paining for her spine. Torso all wet and with her chest still heaving, it appeared as if she has just been rescued from drowning. Even her clothes were all intact and the same as in her previous life. So where the hell is she?!
With no clue to climb upon, she decides to give herself a rest and turns around only to get even more shocked from noticing the presence of two girls who were already staring at her all this time.
One of them had silver-white braided hairs with frightening blood-red eyes concealed behind a pair of decent glasses. She has an old bamboo sword tied behind her black sailor uniform which makes Rem wonder if she's a cosplayer.
Meanwhile, the other girl was a blondie who was relatively quite short while wearing an orange kimono. There wasn't anything much striking to her appearance except for that pouty face with which she was staring at.
Rem looked back at them with a tilted head waiting for their response but they remained silent until suddenly a very high-pitched voice called them out of the blue.
"Kyaaa! I am so sorry for being so late! Please forgive me!!" A teenage girl approached them while miserably crying on her way, Rem was startled by her incoming.
This time, the stranger was wearing a pink nurse uniform and had long purple straight hairs which fluttered as she run clumsily towards them. Waterfall of tears trailed behind from her cheeks as she headed front with a medical kit in her hands. There was no way this girl was a professional nurse.
However, that issue wasn't so important at the moment. Upon seeing no signs of her slowing down, Rem flinched and immediately turns around to escape. But at that moment, the nurse's leg accidentally slips and she crashes straight into Rem's bust, with a weird lewd posture exposed of her back.
Rem pushes her away on reflex and crawls back in embarrassment while someone snickers in the background.
"You never learn, do you, Mikan?" The small girl wearing kimono, giggled as she saw both of them on top of each other in such a flashy position.
The nurse leaned herself back from embarrassment and starts crying again while desperately apologizing.
"I...I am so sorry!!! Uwahh! I really didn't mean that to happen!!!" Her cry was very shrill to the ears.
But aside from that, Rem was instead quite displeased with the shorty's rude behavior. Rem continuously stared at the noisy duo arguing with each other to process what was wrong with these people here.
The silent deadly gaze of the tall girl, the way the shorty bad-mouthed the wimpy and reckless nurse, it all seemed way too familiar to her.
Beads of cold sweat began to bulge on her forehead as she couldn't cope up with the sudden perplexity raising in her mind. She secretly pinched her body but surprisingly, the pain came out to be real.
Ain't no way this was all real! It was for sure that she died from electric shock, but then how come she's alive again?! Afterlife isn't supposed to be like this! Do they?
As far as her knowledge could reach, there were only two possibilities she could come up with.
First, either she transmigrated into this world. But if so, she would've been possessing a character rather than being herself as one.
Second, her consciousness traveled into a strange computer world somehow, but that seems impossible too as she can still feel the pain.
So then, what's the real cause?
The question is answered back with the same words.
"I guess there's no escaping for me."
The white-haired girl was quietly observing Rem's strange behavior while the shorty kept teasing the nurse student named Mikan in the background.
Her name resonated in Rem's ears as she shifted her attention to her surroundings and a ground-breaking thought thunderstruck her mind, making her flinch all of a sudden and stand up right at that instant. Paying no heed to the others, she rushes into a beach hotel present right in front of them.
The girls looked at her in astonishment but didn't follow from behind thinking she was perhaps scared of them. This aroused another argument amongst themselves, but the sailor girl felt a little suspicious and she headed back on her way in silence.
...
Running out of breath, Rem bursts into the drawing room and climbs the staircase as she recognizes the setup and furniture. She ascends desperately hoping that what she was thinking would be wrong but her hopes shattered into many pieces as she reached the same cafeteria she feared about.
Her foot crawled a few steps out of momentum before she collapsed on the ground as what she witnessed herself present in was finally clear.
She was in one of the most gruesome yet popular series named 'Danganronpa 2' game stage. She was present on a so-called uninhabited private island named Jabberwock, which was actually one of the game setups in the second volume of the main series.
The game revolves around sixteen students of Hope peak high school academy, who were sent to an isolated island in disguise of a school trip. But truth be told, they were all actually under a simulation for rehabilitation by academy chiefs, until a notorious icon called 'Monokuma', the representative leader of a terrorist cult, hacked the programme and turned it into a psychological survival battle game.
Rem clutched her chest tight as she realized that she was one of the contestants too now. There's no escape until the simulation finishes but the main question which arises in her mind is will she be able to live until the end?! Unlike other members who died in the simulation, they will be revived again as a rescue team will find them in the other dimension, however, that's not the case with Rem.
This simulation was her life now, and either way she was gonna disappear by the end of this game.
The upsurge of despair had inevitably begun.
