The Eighth Job

"Where are you coming from?" Jap raised a brow at me. His eyes going straight to the clock on the wall.

Sighing, I remove my shoes, kept it at the corner where we keep it, and fully walks into the living room.

Currently, he's sitting on the floor, his assignments scattered round him, but it seems he's not paying any attention to that.

"I got a new job!" I smile brightly thinking he's going to either return the smile, or show a little enthusiasm to my words, but he did no such thing.

Instead, he sat there with a frown on his face. "How long will you continue changing over jobs? I highly doubt you'll work for more than two days Before you're sacked. Why do you sit still for a week and think on things?

Is it feeding you're worried about? I've restocked our fridge. Money to pay the rent? We're not due until next year. You need to have some rest Laty. You don't need to over stress yourself looking for jobs you and I know won't last for long.

As if I'll sit still and comfortably watch you provide for the both of us? I don't think that's quite possible.

"You don't have to say those stuffs about me losing my job. I don't believe that will happen. Moreover, I can't allow you be the only one to Carter about things." It'll make me feel like am leeching off on him. " Should I stop walking and relax, tell me what it is you think I should do? " I raise a brow at him.

Being with him for close to a year now should have taught him exactly who I am. He should know by now that I don't sit ideally.

"You can start thinking of your future; start thinking about school."

"About school?" I scoff at that. "How do you propose I do just that? Right now, I barely have enough money with me, and you're talking about school.

Tell me, how do you expect me to pay the tuition fee that have just being recently increased? "

Most times, I don't get how Jap thinks.

"I can help you with getting a loan. You only need to repay the loans after you must have graduated from school.

You don't need to bother about it when you're in school. After school, you start a work, and gradually pay them back.

Should you be Lucky, they'll totally forget you took a loan from them." He smiles brightly as if his idea is a one in a million kind.

As tempting as that sounds, I can't afford to owe anyone. As a student, I can't afford to have my mind always plagued with the thoughts of the loan I took.

I want to live a carefree life, and not one that I'll be constantly sought after.

"I don't think so." I stand from the cushion am sitting on. " One thing I really hate in this life is owning debt to people. I really hate that." I shake my head. " I know you're actually looking at for me and my future, but I can't afford to be a debtor. Managing a job is really difficult for me, talk more of when I take a loan with an expiry date."

I highly doubt his words about me paying back when I get the money is true.

"But..."

"No buts Jap. I don't like owning, and that's that." Without a backward glance, I walk into my room to have a much needed rest.

Should I lie at the sitting room like I initially intended, Jap will cut my poor ears of with his words.

He'll never rest until he gets me to accept his proposals.

*

I get ready for my new job. Dressed in the pair of jeans and tank top Jap got for me, I put on the blue converse.

Checking to see if my contacts are fully in place, I leave my room.

"Where are you going to by this time?" Jap raises a brow. Taking in the clothes am putting on, he hides a smile.

He always likes it whenever I wear the clothes he got for me.

"Am going to work." Walking to the fridge, I take a coconut flavoured Chocolate; My favourite. Jap doesn't like it, but he gets them for my sake. Knowing how much I love these makes him buy them for my sake.

"Walk? By four in the evening? Where exactly are you working?" He asked in an angry tone.

"In a bar." See you when I return. I blow a kiss at him.

"Laty!" He calls out, but am already halfway across our lot.

I know he must say something about my new place of work, that's why I never said anything.

*

"This is Cal." The manager points at a bulky male behind the bar.

"Hi." He waves at me. A smile on his face. His red hair isn't long, but it's far more longer than mine, and that's saying something. His brown eyes are those that enters in whenever his smiling or laughing.

"Hi." I wave back. My face mirroring his in a smile.

"That right there is Merk, she's the one in charge of things here." He points at a female furious typing on a laptop.

"I really hate tardiness. Don't be late, and we won't have a problem." She says in a clipped tone. Not even bothering to look up at the person she's talking to.

Guess am really insignificant to her.

Her pencil skirt and we'll ironed shirt tells she's not a person to be trifled with.

"Those are Kar and Oak. " He points to the two males cleaning the table. "If you don't look for their trouble, they won't disturb you."

The two have the same colour of dirty brown hair.

"Ok." I swallow.

"The girl over there." He points to one cleaning on a stage, "is Rissa. Should you care to know everything in here, all you have to do is ask her."

" Oh. Okay." I smile.

So far, I've only seen two friendly persons among the members of this great establishment of Taly Tame.

"The last but not the least is Gor. He likes keeping to himself." He points at a lean boy with cropped hair who's currently cleaning the tumblers.

" Ok." I nod like I've being doing.

" I guess I'll leave you here. Get acquitted to them before the bar opens for tonight!" And with that, he leaves me in the den of wolves.
