Chapter 17: Beyond My Own Pain

Hailey’s POV

If I thought Angus was driving like a madman before, it was because I had not had time to get into a car with Owen Bullock, who obviously does not consider traffic laws as a handbook to be strictly followed, but rather as an instruction to be taken into consideration.

His manner must of course be out of anger and at this moment it is thankful that the streets are practically empty because of the hour. We move at an electrifying speed through the sleeping city, and into the empty parking lot of a shopping mall.

Only then, far away from everything, does Owen pull over. I watch him get out of the car and circle around in front of the car, trying to control his anger but without much success.

So I sigh and face the inevitable, as I get out of the car.
