Chapter 37: A Princess’ Command

Hailey’s POV

The cars stop in front of an icy sea where a boat is waiting and in time to make us get off.

“This way,” says one of the men in a dry voice. Owen and I hurry to follow him without letting go of our hands at any time. They lead us down a wooden gangplank to a boat and make us climb into it as the clouds above us turn gray, as if foreshadowing storms.

The boat starts as soon as we have all boarded and, for an interminable time silence, is all I there is around me.

“Where are we going?” I ask Owen in whispers amidst the swaying of the boat on the waves.

“The king's mansion is not in human territory,” says Owen answering in the same way, between hurried murmurs. “It is located on an island of his property at some distance from the coast. It is one of the few places in the world exclusively for wolves,” he says.

“I thought the village was part of his domain,” I say then, impressed by the magnitude of the riches that the king must possess.
