Chapter 33

Cori snatched her buzzing cell phone off the surface of her desk and looked at the display. Ben...again. Why couldn't he just take the hint she wasn't interested in seeing him any longer? He had to know she knew about him and Julie and that he'd lied to her.

Then, her heart started talking - maybe he didn't know she knew. Or, judging from his persistence, perhaps she was wrong about him and Julie. Was he capable of putting on that kind of show - leading a secret life? Anything was possible. So many people did it. But Ben? It didn't make sense. Or, was it that she didn't want it to make sense, be possible that he was a lying, cheating jerk.

She flipped her phone upside down on her desk and continued sorting her computer files. It took only a few minutes for her phone to buzz again. Refusing to look, she kept her focus on her computer screen.

"You gonna get that?" Investigator Pearson asked.

"Huh," Cori replied as she shifted her gaze to the woman standing next to her.
