"It was stupid of me, but they made it sound so simple. An easy way to make cash. The buyers are buyers. If they don't buy from me, they'll still buy from someone else, so I thought, why shouldn't I get the money?"

Cori had no words. A lot of thoughts, but no words at the moment.

Eli continued on, and she and Holden listened. Her brain worked to find a way out of this mess.

"Mom? You okay?" Eli finally asked.

She snapped out of her trance. "Yeah."

"Investigator Pearson said if I worked with them, I may not get into so much trouble." He averted his gaze. "But I'm afraid."

She squeezed his hand; she was, too.

"We'll figure this out. I want to talk to Markie."

"We have an appointment Monday morning with her and the county drug investigator."

She didn't think she could wait until Monday.
