Chapter 27

In the shower the following morning, all I could think about was that I had to thank Chance. My neck hurt from sleeping on it weird in our pile on the couch, and I let the hot spray pound into it. The lodge had better water pressure than my apartment, natural disaster or not.

I climbed out of the shower and picked my way through our wrecked belongings to finish getting ready for the day.

I didn't want to leave the suite and see other people, but if I had to look at Chance's bloodstain on the carpet one more time, I was going to start crying again.

Ava immediately took my hands when I stepped out of the bathroom. Somehow she'd always possessed that best friend's knowledge of when I really needed support.

"Let's go get some breakfast," she said.

I shuddered. "They're going to be there. There's no way we won't see them. And those guys from the other day. I don't know how much more I can take of every person in this stupid place turning into a complete douche."
