"What do you think?"
"I..."
Just as Ashley was expecting his answer, there was a knock on the door. Luke came over with a smug face.
When she saw the person, her eyes suddenly shrank. Wasn't he her high school classmate!
Perhaps Luke had recognized her, he smiled at her and walked straight to Lucas. With both hands on the table, he turned on his phone. It was a call recording.
Lucas's grandpa's voice came from inside, indicating that Lucas had screwed it up this time. Lucas's grandpa was very disappointed in him and asked Luke to help him solve the problem.
"You heard that grandpa asked me to help you. I have always been scrupulous in separating public from private interests. We are integrated with the company. I will help you."
Luke said righteously, but no one knew what he wanted to do.
"I don't need your help! Get out!" Lucas snorted calmly and forcefully. "You're just a vice general manager. You don't have the right to help me."
Ashley frowned. She didn't know what was going on between them, but she had no right to say anything from an outsider's point of view.
With his tongue against his cheek, Luke felt depressed. But on second thought, it was also a victory for him to make Lucas behave like this. With a faint smile at the corners of his mouth, he looked at Ashley and said to Lucas, "That's what you said. Don't regret it."
Then he walked out.
There were only the two of them in the room. Lucas stood up and pulled Ashley to sit on his legs.
"I scared you just now."
"Nothing. But... What's your relationship with him?"
He stopped fiddling with her hair and raised his eyebrows.
"It doesn't matter. Don't think too much. I'll ask someone to send you back first."
Ashley held his hand and refused his kindness, "No, thanks. I've brought Vicky here. She can drive me home. You can deal with it well."
He trusted Vicky, so he agreed and told her to be careful on the way.
After leaving his company, Ashley gave the car key to Vicky and asked her to drive.
But before she got in the car, Luke came over.
"Long time no see, Ashley. Are you free now?"
Ashley pursed her lips. She thought he didn't remember her. But Vicky looked at Luke vigilantly.
"Mrs. Ashley..."
"It doesn't matter. Wait for me in the car. This is my classmate. I have a few words with him."
"All right. Call me if you need anything."
Ashley nodded and went to the nearest cafe with Luke. He wanted to order a cup of coffee for her, but suddenly realized something and smiled bitterly.
"You should drink juice."
She didn't say anything. It didn't matter what she drank. What mattered was what Luke wanted to say to her and what she could know from him.
"We haven't seen each other for nearly ten years. You have changed a lot."
"Really? You haven't changed much."
After saying courtesies, she lowered her head and smiled. "I just didn't expect to see you in that way today. What's the relationship between you and Lucas?"
Luke raised his eyebrows and said, "Didn't he tell you that I'm his elder brother? I am his half-brother, so he hates me very much. I didn't come back to the Lucas family until ten years ago."
No wonder she hadn't heard of him for so many years. It turned out that they were not in the same circle for a long time.
"He didn't tell me about it. He has his considerations. I don't blame him."
Luke frowned, swirling the cup with one hand and the other hand was stirring the coffee with the spoon.
"You have seen what happened today. I wanted to help him, but he misunderstood me a lot. I asked you out is to... To put it bluntly, I want to save the Lucas group through you."
"Through me?"
Ashley was stunned. She didn't expect that he would say so. But how could she be so capable? It was a little farfetched to help, not to mention to save it.
"This is the information I have at hand. If you have watched the live streaming, you will know that what happened today will be first exposed to the media. These are several suspicious media that I have selected. They have been secretly cooperating with the opponents of the Lucas group."
After hesitating for a while, Ashley took the document. The content was very detailed and not wholly unfounded. She frowned and looked at him in confusion.
"I think you have found the wrong person. You can give it to him yourself."
"Are you comforting me?"
Ashley was rendered speechless by his self-mockery and bitterness word. Judging from what had happened today, she guessed that Lucas wouldn't accept it.
She licked her lip and made a faint bite mark. "Okay, I'll give it to him for you, but he should be able to find it himself."
"You're right, so I'm going to tell you the key point. As you know, today's media and hot topic focus on you two. To tell you the truth, my grandpa is not satisfied with what happened between you and Lucas. He won't show up. It is better for the doer to undo what he has done. You are the key to solve the problem."
Luke's words made sense. There was no reason for her not to believe it. But the press conference was over, how could she clarify anything?
"It's all my fault. I'll try my best to make it up to him."
"Compensation is too strong a word. The Lucas group is a thorn in the flesh of other companies. Someone will wait for us to make a mistake sooner or later. You take this, it can help you."
It was a black recorder pen. Ashley wanted to listen to it but was stopped by Luke.
"You can listen to it at home. It's useful. The time is late. Go back home."
Ashley was full of doubts and looked at the sky outside. It was indeed late. After saying goodbye to Luke, she left the cafe. In the car, she turned on the recorder and listened. It turned out that these media were discussing how to mess up today's press conference before the conference, and it also mentioned the boss of a company.
She was shocked. Vicky also heard it but said nothing, "I'll drive you back."
"Okay."
In the evening, after Ashley took a shower, Lucas came back with a tired face. She walked up to him and took his suit jacket.
"Have you had dinner?"
"Yes, how about you?" He pinched her face and asked, "Why are you still up?"
"I just took a shower and am going to sleep. You should also take a shower and go to sleep. You have been tired all day."
"Okay."
When he came out of the bathroom, Ashley decided to give him the materials and recording pen.
"Maybe it's useful to you."
However, he was not as happy as she thought. Instead, he held the document tightly and stared at her, which made her feel cold in her heart.
"Why are you looking at me like this? Look at the thing in your hand first... Ah!"
He suddenly grabbed her hand. Although he didn't use much strength, he frightened her. She frowned and asked, "What are you doing?"
"Who gave you this?"
Ashley remembered what Luke had told her during the day suddenly. There was still an unsolved knot between the two brothers. If she said it, it will only make things worse.
