"Did you know?"

Calypso couldn't meet Rosie's gaze when she said, "About what?"

"That someone is actively trying to kill me."

The blonde winced. "I did."

"What else?" Rosie asked, noticing how Calypso's hand around the hose trembled so as she watered the flowers in the garden.

"I've luckily been spared the details. I just was given the task to look after you in the house."

Rosie laid a hand on Calypso's shoulder. "But we're friends, right? That wasn't a task."

"Of course." Her immediate answer relieved Rosie. "You've seen how lousy I can act and lie. I could never be able to pretend friendship, Rosie. I do like you. And I'm happy to be your friend."

"I'm glad to hear that. So glad."

"Tell me honestly. How are you feeling right now?"

Pulling breath into her nose, Rosie said in the exhale, "Like crap."

Calypso's hand came out and she gave Rosie's hand a quick squeeze before it moved away.
