The breeze ruffled Maria's hair, blowing the unruly strands right into her eyes, causing her to lose focus. She struggled to get the hair out of her eyes. Her mother tutted gently, and the breeze she was making stopped. She came closer and helped Maria catch her hair.
Despite the frustration, it was a nice spring day. There was chill that still hung in the air from the breeze flowing in the clearing, but it was fresh and crisp, making Maria feel sharp and focused. And the forest clearing her mother had brought her in, for discretion's sake, was surrounded by snowdrops. The little delicate looking, but genuinely sturdy flowers poking out in between mounds of stubborn snow gave Maria the hope that if she just worked a little harder, she'd be able to face her enemy and survive.
So she breathed in, focused once more and, as the wind started picking up again, she closed her eyes. Maria concentrated on her surroundings, the wind blowing through the clearing.
