Aria's P O V
"Ahhhhhhh! I didn't do it, please. Let me go." I cried, sweat dripping down my face.
"Maid, do you realize we have all the time in the world to torture you. I'll advise you to speak up before we kill you. Tell us your motive for poisoning in the royal palace." The mean guard who kept interrogating me spoke up.
"No one asked me to do anything. I don't have a motive because I didn't poison the tea, I am being tortured while the main culprit is out there." I grit out.
There are burns all over my body. I'm in great pain and I feel closer to my death. Why won't they believe me?
"You still refuse to tell us the truth, do you know what will happen to you if we tell the king? He'll hand you over to his soldier and they won't spare you. They'll use all kinds of techniques which will damage you to get the truth out of you. You'll end up dead by the end of the day so tell us the truth." He yelled.
"I don't know what else to tell you..I..."
He stabbed my thigh with a small knife, drawing out blood. I screamed and eventually passed out.
*
I opened my eyes when a bucket of water was dumped on me.
Why am I still here, why am I still in their prison? I thought weakly as I stared at the mean guard who has been interrogating me.
"Come in ma'am, she's now conscious." The mean guard said and gave way for someone to come in.
I stared up at the familiar face in front of me but due to my blurry vision, I couldn't point out where I'd met her.
"Lift her face. I want her staring at me." The lady turned and ordered.
The guard quickly came over to me. He lifted my face to make me stare at him.
And that was when I recalled her. Evil Betty.
What is she doing here?
"You...you remember me, don't you? You are that bitch that spilt a drink on his Highness project but he let you go. Honestly, I'm glad you got caught trying to perform another evil." She smiled at me.
"I...I didn't do it. I didn't poison the tea," I groaned in defence.
"You are talking when she is talking?" The guard snarled before slapping me.
"How dare you?" He grunted.
"No, leave her. Don't hit her. She is not confessing to her sins, is she?" Evil Betty asked.
"No, ma'am, she is not. She keeps insisting that she didn't do it." The guard said.
"Okay, since I'll be getting married to the crown prince soon. Can you give me the honour of passing out a temporary judgment on her?" She questioned.
"That is not a problem ma'am, go on." The guard allowed.
"I think you should strip her of her maid title and put her among the slaves. When she is ready to confess to her crimes, then you can bring her out and pass the main judgment on her." Evil Betty declared.
"You have spoken well, ma'am, thank you." The guard bowed in respect.
"It's no problem. This will soon be my permanent home after all." She smiled before turning and walking out of the prison.
"You are lucky. She just saved you from getting hurt. If not, I'll keep torturing and interrogating you until you're ready to speak up. You should thank her when next you see her." The guard told me as he unchained me.
"Stand up." He grunted and dragged me up.
I'm really weak. I can't walk.
"Stand properly." He shouted when I fell back on the sit.
I shook my head. "I can't," I mumbled.
"You...bitch." He slapped my face and asked me to stand up again but I remained seated on the chair.
"I can't stand the pain. You can keep on beating me. It'll only weaken me." I whispered out as my tongue tasted the blood from my bruised lips.
He came to me and picked me up them hung me across his shoulder.
"I'll deal with you later. You'll pay for making me carry you," he threatened before taking me out of the prison house and to the slave's quarter.
He went to a fresh cell and dropped me on the floor. My body met with the hard floor and I groaned out in pain.
What is going to happen next? I didn't poison anyone.
What should I do, who is after me, who framed me up? I wondered as I rolled on the floor.
*Another one. Who is she?*
*She is a maid. Look at her attire.*
*I wonder what she did to be thrown here.*
*She is a fool, she could have avoided trouble. She thinks being a slave is fun.*
I heard different voices speak but I soon passed out.
Betty's P O V
I walked into Damon's office with a huge smile on my face.
I stopped in front of the door where his scent is the strongest and knocked. Two seconds later, I opened the door and walked in to see him. His head is resting on his desk and he doesn't seem to notice me.
What could be the problem, Is he sick? I walked behind him and touched him but he grabbed my hand and fling me away.
I slammed my body hard against the office wall and slid down to the floor.
"Da...Damon," I cried out in pain.
"Betty?" I watched him stand up and come to me.
"I'm sorry, I didn't know you were the one." He said and helped me to my feet.
"What happened?" I cried out.
"I.. nothing," he removed his hand which was placed on his chest.
"Are you sure it's nothing, you didn't even notice me enter? Is it Davin, are you having trouble taming him?" I asked with concern-filled eyes.
Sometimes, Davin, his wolf could misbehave.
"No, it's not. I'm totally fine. But why are you here?" He sat down after making sure I was standing fine.
"I...I came to see you, I expected you to come two days ago but you didn't." I explained.
"To come, to where?" He lifted his brows in confusion.
"Do you mean you forgot? The king gave you a week to engage me," I reminded him.
"Oh, yeah. That's true, I was occupied with work." He mumbled messaging his forehead.
"You...you forgot, how can you forget this such thing, do you know how long I waited for you?" I half yelled.
"Do not yell at me, Betty." He groaned, glaring at me. His sudden change of tone got me scared.
I think something is happening to him.
"Damon...it's me. It's me, Betty, are you sure you are alright?" I asked, with a calm concerned voice.
"Do I look sick to you?!" He snapped.
"Simon! Simon!!" He called out to his guard.
The door burst open and he came in.
"Betty here is tired, escort her back to her father's house." He ordered while staring at the magazine in front of him.
"But..but Damon....it's..." I tried protesting
"What are you waiting for?" He snapped making me flinch.
"Let's go ma'am Betty, please. He is not in a good mood." The guard, Simon led me out of his office and to the car I came with.
I think I need to inform my father about this. I need to inform him that Damon isn't feeling too well.
Damon's P O V
I let my head rest against my office chair and closed my eyes immediately the door closed. I don't need her anywhere near me right now.
Having her close seems to irritate me a lot.
The door opened and Matthew came in with Dave behind him.
"What happened, we saw Simon leading Betty out. Are you alright?" Matthew probed.
"I'm not. I don't know what is wrong with me. I feel the pain that isn't mine. I feel tired, infuriated at the pain I'm feeling. I feel so much anger right now." I grunted out.
"Pain that isn't yours, are you sure?" Matthew asked and I glared up at him.
"What do you mean by that silly question?" I growled at him and he stepped back.
"Come on, bro. He doesn't mean any harm. We are just here to help you, explain more about the pain that you are feeling which isn't yours." Dave stepped forward.
"I feel scared, it's as if I'm in some sort of danger. I need to get out, I need to escape but I'm too weak to escape." I explained, lifting my hand to my chest.
"When exactly did this start?" Dave asked again.
"This morning. It started early this morning and won't go away. I don't just don't know the reason why and my wolf is refusing to say a word. He has been mute, I can't communicate with him." I shook my head as I explained.
"Okay, I think this is way more serious than we think. Maybe we should call the royal doctor to check what is wrong with you." Dave suggested.
"I don't think so. I don't think the royal doctor can help him but let's just try it." Matthew told and Dave nodded at him.
"I'll have someone call the royal doctor now," Dave mumbled and left my office.
Matthew came close and squatted down beside me.
"I think it's her. She's the one doing this to you. It's two things, it's either she's a witch like I said or she's your mate. Either of the two and since you can't feel that she's your mate, since you don't have any connection with her, the only thing that draws you to her has also disappeared. I'm concluding now that she is a witch. Having her killed might solve the problem. What do you think?" He suggested.
"No..no don't touch her. You can't..." I groaned out as I gripped my chest which feels like it was going to open up anytime from now.
"Arg," I groaned as I half shifted.
My wolf was beginning to go crazy.
"Damon?" Matthew called, alerted at my condition.
I groaned out again as I kept on shifting.
Oh shit! He came behind me and tried holding me down when the door burst open and the royal doctor came in with Dave and two Beta guards behind him.
They all surrounded the room to prevent me from breaking out as I've completely shifted.
Now, I've been pushed backwards and my wolf is in total control. My wolf can of course recognize them as harmless people but that does not mean it can't harm them.
My wolf growled, warning them to move out of the way as not to get hurt but they all remained stationed in front of the door to prevent me from running out.
My wolf turned sharply and made to go out through the window and when they ran after us, my wolf did a turn they didn't expect and headed for the door. But because the door was locked, it gave me a hard time opening it up with my teeth. As I made to run out, I felt something hit my neck region.
My wolf and I instantly got weak and passed out.
*
I opened my eyes to see the face of my mother, the queen staring at me.
"What is wrong with my brother?" Arya, my little sister who was sitting beside her asked.
"I don't know, Arya, let's hope he is okay."
"Are you okay?" Arya then turned to me and asked.
I groaned and struggled to sit up.
"What happened?" I asked messaging my forehead.
"I should ask you that question, Damon. What happened to you?" Mother asked.
"Why did you lose control of yourself? You almost harmed the others. I'm glad the royal doctor was able to put you to sleep. Who knows what you could have done if you were allowed out." Mother sighed.
"It's not me. It's my wolf." I groaned out as I palmed my face.
"Yeah, you should learn how to control yourself and your wolf more."
"Brother, what happened?" Arya came close and touched my hand.
"It's nothing. I'm fine now, I promise." I responded in the nicest voice ever.
Arya gets scared quickly. I can't offend to scare her.
"Don't get sick, Damon. I'll be really sad." She came close and hugged me.
"I won't, I promise."
I'll find out what caused this and I'll solve it or get rid of it.
