The cool breeze from my AC fanned my face as I turned left and right on my seat whilst the breeze touched each side of my face, I just finished examining a patient and was ready for my last patient before i close for the day.
The door swung open and i see an old friend smiling at the door. "Ihsan Abdullah Abdulhakeem." She giggled. "Mrs Maryam Mairo." She has a thing for saying names in full.
"How are you." She grinned seating infront of me. "I'm coming to see you in the hospital not your house so definitely akwai matsalar." I shook my head trying to remember what matsalar meant but I had no idea. "There is problem. That was what i said, Ihsan you grew up in abuja and Hausa is still giving you problem. You need to come let's start having lessons." She grinned dropping her bag.
"Back to What brought me here. My son Usman was playing around with his toys and.. You know boys. He shoved it in my eyes when i tried to make him stop. And since then the glasses i got from you two months back has stopped working on my right eye, And I get red eyes sometimes, Its itchy too sometimes but its just getting worse."
I agree with her its really red around her cornea. "Follow me please." I motioned her to lay down so i can examine the eye.
I used the slit lamp during the exam. A slit lamp works by magnifying the structures within the eye so i can get a closer look at any damage been caused by what got shoved in her eye. I applied a stain to the eye surface to help look for any other changes in the eye.
From what i can see, She has an infection. Probably keratitis but i have to confirm the exact course of the keratitis with a lab test.
"From what i have seen you may have keratitis. But i need a tear sample so the people in the lab can test to confirm the course. You know if left untreated it leads to blindness?" Her brows shut up. "SubhanAllah." She blurted out, Shook written all over her face. "Now you should go to the lab and they will take a tear sample from your eyes. She nodded. "Alright crying is wayy better than wani blood test, Until i come back." I walked her to the door.
Immediately she walked out i waited for a few minutes if i would see another patient walk in, But no one did. It was 3am and my shift was up. Standing up from my desk I picked up my bag holding it in my left arm i slide out off my lab-coat and hung it on my chair.
I stepped out and was greeted by two nurses. Truth be told everyone kinda liked me in this hospital, Well not everyone I know two nurses who rumor has it that they talk about me behind my back. But all in all they all know me. I looked down at my phone and immediately Abdullah came up. A cheeky smile came across my lips
"Hey Zawj." I answered. "Sweet heart." I scrunched my face he never calls me that. "Okay, What do you want?." He obviously wants a favour or something. "What do you mean what i wan- " he sighs. "Okay. Fine. I need you to follow me to Lagos tomorrow." I knew it.
"And you're just telling me? I can't i have things to do at the hospital, I'm sorry." I pouted as if he could see me. I got to the front door. And Luqman the door man opened it for me I waved at him quickly reaching for my purse i gave him a one thousand naire note. I had so much respect for him, He takes three jobs so he could bring food to his families table. He thanked me and prayed but i only nodded smiling and continued my walk to my car.
"You still have about 18 hours. C'mon." He really wanted me to come. "Lets say i wanted to come ehn? What about Nana she has school. I have work too you know."
"I know. Nana is coming too as well ." I unlocked the Black Range Rover with my key and sat on the leather seat.
"Arrrghhh. Zawjii, How many days toh?" I asked strapping my seat belt on. "Just 5 days." We usually stay shorter than that. "I will tell you more about it when i get home but just say yes now."
"Yes." I started the car and I could feel him Grining. "What time is the flight. Is it Private or First class?"
"Private, In Shaa Allah." I smiled at that finally something i can add to my vlog. I drove home and just as the gates flew open my phone Rang i looked at my screen and Firdausi's name flashed on it.
Firdausi and i became friends from highschool she is my oldest and closest friend, She knows me so well. Even though it has been what? Two years since i last saw her.
She's currently doing her major in Dermatology in Egypt. "Hello." I answered driving into the mansion.
I smiled back at the security who waved at me. He is the friendliest security guard in this house the rest well. Don't really smile that much.
"Hello Doctor slash blogger slash wife slash mother slash Ihsan." She spoke with a sore throat sounding very bored over the phone.
I sighed. "What is it you sound..well not your self." She made a loud groan then continued. "I'm just tried just came back from school. I even saw your mum at the store before I got home. Wait wait Ihsan i have to call you back, Shameel is calling me."
"Okay so it is the one and only Shameel. Hm. You better do though." She giggled then ended the call.

I sat at the back with Nana who had her head on my shoulder playing candy crush with my phone. Whilst Abdullah sat infront with the Driver. The ride was smooth just listening to Abdullah and Mallam Musa discussing about life and politics on the way. "Mummy i got to level eiight." She looked up at me with her big brown eyes. "Good job. But i am still at level 886." I rubbed her head and she pouted looking back at the phone. "Daddy what are we going to do in Lagos will we visit Adda Surrayah?." He turned and smiled. Surrayyah is his elder sister "Don't worry you will see." He said the last part looking at me. I gave him a werid look and he smirked.
What is he up too?
I swear he better not take us to one of those boring conference meetings he always attends.
We dropped right infront of our plane as our car was allowed access. I helped Nana come out from the black Audi I turned to meet Abdullah standing tall beside me. He held his hand out for me. I was about to place my hand in his when he moved his hand lower. "Not you. Jeez." He grabbed Nana's hands and left helping her up the stairs to the plane. That's what happens when you give birth your husband starts to love the kids more than you.
*wipes invincible tears.
The steward in blue greeted with a smile. "Good morning Mrs Abdullah." Maybe Its because I am an Ophthalmologist. But when ever i meet someone new the first thing I do is to look at there eyes and analyse it. And from what I can tell this lady would get a pink eye in less than 36hours. I smiled back.
I looked around and i noticed they changed the seats. Abdullah sat beside Nana who was swinging her legs from her seat. Looking at what ever he was showing her.
I took out my camera to make a video. I haven't posted a vlog or anything in weeks, My followers are thinking I am MIA.
Immediately Nana noticed i was recording, She came to my side she loves entering my videos. "Say Hi world." I tell her she waved her hand towards the camera squealing a loud "Hiii worldd." With her milk teeth.
I started blogging on my Instagram, It has always been a dream of mine to become a lowkey blooger and when i started getting followers, Three years ago i started making vlogs and well that was what gained me more followers. Both the ones who are actually curious to seeing what i do or the ones that are just there to see what Abdullah is up too.
Abdullah isn't a fan nor a hater but he sometimes joins me especially when my followers request for a Q and A. Its a lot of work to make him appear in front of my Camera because sadly he is Camera shy.
I turned the camera to him and he gives me a cheeky smile before turning back to his Tab. I dropped my camera to buckle Nana before doing mine.
"Good Morning this is Captain Sharif speaking On behalf of the flight crew, let me welcome you aboard Delta airbus 377 from Abuja to Egypt- Cairo. We should touch down in Cairo at 2:30pm local time, Depending on the headwind..." A short gasp escaped my lips as i stared at Abdullah in disbelief. I looked out the window as the plane began speeding for take off.
