Ihsan
Ihsan looked at her phone's screen with so much concentration, You would think she was trying to finish the hardest puzzle ever. But no.
She was trying to take a picture of her family standing beside a painting by one of these well known painters 'leonardo da vinci'. She smiled at the result giving it one final look. She rose a thumbs up to them and they all let out a sigh. Even Nana who was carrying a smile in the picture.
Abdullah and Nana walked around to see more paintings. "It better look nice." Firdausi spoke fixing her veil. "What do you take me for I am an excellent photographer." She flipped an invisible hair. Raising the corner of her lips. "Don't tell me that is a smirk." Both corners lit up now because she knew that smirk was a terrible one.
"You better tag me though, I need me some Instagram followers." Ihsan rose her brows. "Oh, wow...since when did you become interested." Before she could reply Ihsan rose her camera and yelled. "CANDID." Taking a picture of Firdausi with the flash almost blinding her. "Ohh..i would definitely tag you in this." Firdausi shook her head begging her not to use the picture, was a waste of time and asking her to see the picture would make her feel worse. "How did we become friends again?." Ihsan stuck a tongue out at Firdausi, Laughing at the picture one last time.
"Do you still hear from Aisha ever since, that incident?" Ihsan frowned. "Who is Aisha?." Realisation hit her and she rolled her eyes. "You know she works in Abdullah's company so I really don't know what is going on." Firdausi pressed her lips firmly together. "But you trust Abdullah right?" Ihsan gave her a dimpled smile. "With my life." Firdausi wiggled her brows. "Well in that case, I guess everything is fine." They met Abdullah and Nana by the fountain, as Abdullah watched her play with some Arab kids.
"Shall we?" Ihsan nodded and they were all off to eat dinner at a fancy restaurant on the other side of Cairo. "My teacher told us there are pyramids in Egypt. But I didn't see any of them them." Nana finished her sentence poking the broccoli with her fork. "There are pyramids but they are across the river from modern day Cairo. Which is a bit far from here. if not I would have personally taken you." Nana raised her brows. "Mummy please can we go tomorrow." She asked almost falling out of her chair. "Ask daddy." She knew they were leaving in a few hours so it was all up to him. "Daddy please I want to see the Pyramids, Pretty please." She gave a bright cheeky smile. Blinking her big brown eyes more than once. "Little one, In Shaa Allah. Some day." Nana's head tilted downwards avoiding eye contact while she nodded to Abdullah.
He looked at Ihsan with a 'look what you made me do.' Face. She simply mouthed an 'Aww', Forming a fake pout to him, before digging back to her food. "Dont worry baby girl when daddy brings you back I will give you a tour, Kin ji?" She nodded, bringing her smile back.
They got to Firdausi's porch and she came down from the car. Ihsan came down as well walking her to the front door. "I'm so happy you guys came, Wallah." Ihsan nodded with a smile. "I know." They both smiled at each other, they didn't want this moment to go away. It has been so long since she saw her and they had no idea when they would see each other face to face again. "I wish I wasn't so busy with work. I would have called more often and the time difference again. When I am free you probably have class." They both sighed. "So many issues." She added.
"How is Shameel, The guy you were talking about over the phone." She started blushing and Ihsan gave her a toothy grin. Mehn is she going to miss her best friend. "I will tell you more about him on the phone tonight. Don't keep your husband waiting because of me, Abeg." They bid each other farewell and Ihsan went straight to her mother's house. There wouldn't be enough time to see her tomorrow because there flight was at 4am she wanted Nana to be in school before 10 o'clock.
"Do you talk to your father?" Ihsan tried to recall the last time she saw him. And it was on the television one Friday when he was recorded praying the Friday jummat prayers with the president. "We talk on the phone." He used to call her every two weeks when she got married but now it has turned to two months. She wasn't bothered because she still knew he loved her and he has a deep regard for her.
"Mama sanughadir ghadaan." She looked up with sad eyes, She loves speaking Arabic but she has no one to talk to back home. "Amul 'an 'arak qaribana.". They smiled at each other before she placed her head on her mothers shoulders. She was battling with tears. Her mothers never wants to see her cry, because she knows her mother would be hurt seeing her like that.
[Mama sanughadir ghadaan || Mama we are leaving Tomorrow]\\
[Amul 'an 'arak qaribana] I really hope to see you soon.]
"Assalamualaikum." Abdullah walked in holding the prayer mat he was given in his right arm. Ihsan slowly took her head from her mother. "Abdullah you're taking my baby away, Right." She joked. Her arab accent coming out. She tried to form a straight face but the smile at the corner of her lips says other wise.
Abdullah laughed. "She's our baby, So we can both share her. Where is that knife sef let's just cut her in half then." The both laughed shaking there heads at Abdullah's Dreary joke, Ihsan loved the relationship between her mother and her husband. But hated her relationship with her and her mother In Law. She was enjoying herself so much that she forgot about all ber problems.
"I love you both you know that right?."
They both smiled in unison. "Yes. And we love you even more." Abdullah answered.
The pilot announced there arrival and it was the captain's voice that woke Ihsan from her slumber. She stretched and yawned simultaneously. A black Audi was already waiting for them outside and as they stepped out of the jet it was straight to the car. They got home freshened up and started off there day like a normal Monday.
Ihsan looked at the time and it read a minute pass five she had already gone an hour out of her shift after working on a patient, She had a lot of things on her mind. She has a surgery to a patient coming all the way from sokoto and she wants to upload a mini vlog on her YouTube page and lastly she had to call back home before the end of the day.
She heard a knock on her door and Dr Chioma's head appeared on her door. "You're still here." She asked stepping in. "I am done, I am just thinking of how I am going to stand up. I am soo tired and I kinda feel dizzy like i am going to puke. But its just the jet lag i suppose." Chioma laughed. "You need to rest or maybe you're just pregnant." Ihsan laughed.
She opened her mouth to answer but then zipped it back. She quickly reached for her purse bringing out her phone she opened her period tracker app.
She couldn't even remember the last time she saw her period. 'You are 49 days late' . Was the first thing she saw her eyes widened. "Is everything alright Doctor Ihsan." Chioma asked looking worried she has never seen her like this.
Wait. I think i am pregnant.
