CHAPTER 19: CANDID

"Chioma, I-I think I am pregnant." She had no idea why she told her that. But she had no control over her self. The grin on her face was broad. But her smile faded when she realised she wasn't 100% sure.

"Chioma I need to do a pregnancy test right now!" She almost screamed. Breathing really hard.

Chioma was smiling as well she has never seen a smile so bright on her face, She had always liked her she was the nicest Doctor in this hospital.

They rushed to the lab were they met Dr Ameerah sipping her tea. "What are you guys doing here? Aren't your shifts over?." She asked looking astonished. "Can you do a pregnancy test on me. Right now if you aren't busy." Ameerah rose her brows. "Dr Ihsan, for you?". She nodded before you could say jack Robinson Dr Ameerah brought out a syringe from a drawer.

She motioned for her to take a seat and she sat on a black stool opposite her, Dr Ameerah Searched for veins on Ihsan's right hand, And when she did she tied a tourniquet around my arm and Ihsan made a fist to make the veins appear. After disinfecting the area she inserted the needle drawing out blood.

She transferred it to a tube then smiled. "Well, In Shaa Allah I will tell you the results tomorrow." She spoke with a smile. Little did she know Ihsan wanted it right away. "No no no...I can wait for you to do the test right now." Dr Ameerah pushed up her glasses higher. "Don't worry Mrs Abdullah I will text you the results as soon as I am done, It would take about an hour or two or more, That's if Doctor Nasif doesn't get patients tonight." Ihsan chewed on her bottom lip. She had hoped she would confirm before getting home.

"Hey, Dont worry I am on duty tonight i can help her." Chioma tapped her on the shoulder smiling. She swallowed hard taking her bag from the desk. "Okay, Okay." She managed to blurt out.

The ride back home was distressing for Ihsan, At some point she would ask her self who was actually driving the car because she got lost in her thoughts. 'What if i am pregnant' she kept asking her self, She smiled just thinking of the look on Abdullah's face or even Nana. Literally everyone in her life would be happy to hear this news.

She got home and as soon as the gates flew open she saw an extra car it was a brown land rover packed beside Abdullah's car. Her lips curled in a smile when she realised it was Yahya's car Aka Ahmad. Her step brother.

She pushed the door open greeting them all "Assalamualilkum" all eyes drifted to hers, Abdullah had Umar on his thighs and Nafisah, Yahya's second born was playing lego in the middle of the living room with Nana. "Mummy!!." Nana called running towards her and Nafisah followed not shortly, before they got to her she squatted low to there level and gave them both a hug. "My girls."

"Waalaikum salam. Ya Ihsan." Yahya answered her while the girls ran back to there game. "Yahya!" She squealed. "You didn't tell me you were coming. Haba!." He laughed. "See don't feel important abeg we came to see Rukkys cousin she put to bed three days ago." Rukkaiyah smiled rolling her eyes. "Who were you saying you missed two days ago, ehn Yahya?." He wrinkled his nose, and lightly coughs.

Ihsan stuck her tongue out at him. "Abdullah told us you guys just came back from Egypt." I nodded walking over to him. "Yes immediately we arrived I went to work, And I had to do surgery for one of my patients so that's why I came home a bit late." They all nodded. "You didn't tell me you had surgery today." Abdullah spoke which came out almost like a whisper. "I am sorry, I forgot." I noticed Yahya and Rukkaiyah were laughing at something. "When did you guys arrive." They both looked at each other. "About thirty mins. Bah?." Rukkaiyah nodded.

"Umar no hug for me?." He slid down from Abdullah's thighs with a smug on his face he ran to Ihsan and wrapped his hands around her, She observed him. "Ya rukky. Ah its not fair why is he chubby and my Nafisah isn't." She played with his cheeks.

"He eats like 6 times daily." Yahya nodded in agreement. "And he nags that he wants to be a soldier every day. Ehen, How was Mama, I am sure she was happy to see you." Abdullah nodded. "They were both speaking Arabic. Now I know how she feels when we speck Hausa."

"So true. I will onlt be hearing aarh shukuran zzh zzhh shukuran." Yahya joked. "I have never said that in my life. What does shukuran even mean. Maybe you don't know."

"Haba. Shukuran is thank you now. Everyone knows that one. And you spent just two days but your accent is coming back" Rukkaiyah nodded too and the couple chuckled.

Ihsan noticed something she was smiling For the first time in the living room ever since Umma came over if she ever comes to the living she leaves in anger or worst.

"Where is Umma?" Abdullah looked over to her door. "I had the driver take Basma back to school, Umma and yushrah followed kenan." Ihsan frowned. "Basma? I thought you said she was never going to come back." She was getting sullen but her tone was still soft He furrowed his brows. "Never? I didn't use that word." They were both whispering to each other.

But it looked like they having a pleasant conversation from the smiles they spoke with. She opened her mouth to rephrase what he said but the Azhan from her phone began calling for prayers.

"Shall we go to the mosque?" Yahya called. Just then the front door opened. Umma and Yushrah walked in holding a bag with 'Miniso' written on it "Assalamualaikum." Abdullah stood up to welcome his mother in. "Waalaikumsalam. Umma this is Yahya Ihsan's brother and his wife Ruqayyah. Yahya this is my mother and my sister Yushrah." Anyone with eyes that can see would notice the way Yushrah was All over Yahya.

Ihsan was the first to notice this. It was like it was love at first sight for her. She couldn't take her eyes off him, And the smile on her face did not fade at all. "Sannu da zuwan ku." Umma greeted looking all nice. Ihsan almost scoffed at her behaviour. Even though deep inside she was trying to ignore the conversation they just had with her husband for bringing Basma to this house with out her knowing.

Ihsan's cell phone beeped in her hands realising it was text from Dr Ameerah she hurriedly reached down to read.

From her Flashing eyes dilated pupils and broad grin. You can already tell what ever she read brought her so much joy and happiness.
