CHAPTER 22

Susan and Viscount William sat side by side in her garden. She nursed her cup of tea as she listened to the man ramble away and occasionally responded with a simple yes or no when necessary as she had realised it was easier communicating with the man that way. Also, it was easier that way when she was barely paying attention to what he was saying about his investments.

For the past eight days, she had been forced to sit and listen to the man talk about nothing but his investments, but if she was lucky enough, he would talk about one of his numerous adventures in places she couldn't remember.

Unfortunately, she couldn't tell the man to go away as he had served as a good distraction for the past eight days she had last seen Edmund. He was her getaway from drowning in her bitter thoughts and sorrow. She knew thinking about the black guard wouldn't do her any good. It never did.
