Chapter 12: A Walk in the Park

The weather was mild with a warm breeze, ideal for a walk in Central Park. There was no point in brooding the rest of the day, Lily told herself, vowing to work harder to prove to Barbara that she was more than a pretty face. “Sure,” she told Gavin in response to his request to join her for a walk in the park. “What can it hurt?”

“Don’t sound too excited,” Gavin said, laughing as they maneuvered around his car parked on the curb and crossed the street.

Lily had to admit it was nice to be outside, even with Gavin. She felt so unsettled around him, but not in the same way Greer made her feel. When it came to Gavin, she struggled to decide whether she liked him or despised him. The jury was still out, but Lily couldn’t deny that she was strangely attracted to him. And not necessarily in a healthy way.
