Chapter 21: A Bloody Lie

As Lily sat in his office waiting for Greer, Gavin strolled past the door. Spotting her, he stopped dead in his tracks, an evil smirk on his face. "I had you pegged for a goner," he said, stepping into the room. "Looks like you finally saw reason." Putting his hand under her chin, he held her face to the light. "You healed beautifully," he breathed, looking deep into her eyes. “Vampire blood becomes you."

"But I—" Lily began. She wanted him to know she didn't drink Greer's blood.

"What are you doing here, Gavin?" Greer demanded, striding into his office and closing the door behind him. "What will it take for you to realize Lily isn't interested in you?"

"I guess Lily will have to tell me that herself," Gavin said, taking his hand off her face.

"Well, I'm telling you for her," Greer said. "Lily's taken a position in our legal department, and I expect you to treat her with the respect and professionalism of a colleague."
