Chapter 28: A Moment of Truth

"Where are we going?" Lily asked nervously as Gavin, his hand in hers, whisked her across the park. Somewhere in the park, a woman screamed in terror. Men's laughter echoed through the trees.

Lily tried to control the trembling in her voice so that Gavin wouldn't detect her fear. "What did Warren mean when he said we’re going hunting?”

"Exactly what it sounded like," Gavin said with an evil grin. "You must be starving by now. It's been days since the crash. When I turned into a vampire, I was so thirsty I could barely get enough. It took me weeks to settle down." He licked his lips at the memory, then looked at her, perplexed. "Maybe something went wrong," he mused. "Maybe Greer wasn't enough of a vampire to do the job right."

"Don't be ridiculous," Lily said, trying to sound playful, despite the fact she could barely breathe. She cursed herself for letting this game go too far. If only Warren hadn't shown up. Now, she was about to pay the price.
