Chapter 29: A Desperate Turn of Events

As Lily stood crying in the middle of Central Park, the sun began to rise. A sudden exhaustion crept over her. All she wanted to do was climb into her own bed and go to sleep. She rubbed her hands together as her fingers began to tingle. "Ow," she cried to Greer. "My skin is burning."

"Let me see?" Greer said, taking her hands in his.

Lily pulled them back as if they'd burst into flames. “It’s getting worse! What's happening to me?" she cried, shaking them in the air. But nothing helped. The pain began to creep up her arms and into her neck.

Greer suddenly looked panicked. "Take off your coat," he ordered her, pulling at her sleeves. As the coat came off her body, Greer gulped in appreciation at the sight of her standing there in her sheer nightgown. His eyes wandered over the curve of her body under the silky fabric.

"I was getting ready for bed when Gavin showed up," she explained, suddenly embarrassed.
