Chapter 33: Putting The Pieces Together

"What is it?" Greer asked Lily, concern etched on his face.

Lily closed her eyes and shook her head, her throat so tight it strangled her. "It was us,” she moaned. It was me who Alfonso Argento kidnapped, and you stopped me from feeding on what would have been my first prey.” She struggled for clarity through the haze. "It was always you. I remember. But it’s so vague and confusing." Her legs went weak beneath her as she grasped Greer's arm for support. He put his arm around her, letting her full weight fall against him.

"That was the last time I saw my parents," she sobbed as he lowered her to the floor. "What happened to them?"

"Somehow, you were reunited with them for a short period," Greer said. He took his coat off and put it around her shoulders. "Then there was a fire,” he recalled with pain in his eyes. "The newspaper said lightning hit the barn where you were hiding with your parents in the loft. They died in the fire. You survived."
