Chapter 48: So Close, But Still So Far

When Lily, Penelope, and Greer reached Greer's house, Janus and Warren were already there. Lily watched Janus stride across the room in her short leather miniskirt and eight-inch heels.

"Great shoes," Penelope said, admiring them.

"Thank you," Janus smiled coolly. "My theory is that if you're going to have legs, you might as well enjoy them."

"Your feet must get sore by the end of the day," Lily said with more than a little scorn.

"Not really," Janus said matter-of-factly. "I rarely have feet for more than a few hours at a time."

Lily smiled thinly as images of Janus as a dolphin, a bat, and a spider, invaded her thoughts.

Penelope emptied the wand and the disc from her pockets on the table. Warren picked up the disc and examined it. Like Greer, there was no evidence of the fight in the park left on his face. Werewolves, like vampires, Lily realized, possessed the powers of accelerated regeneration.
