Chapter 13: Lucky 13

Rainy’s POV

Shiny little shards, some as small as dust, make tinkling sounds and glisten in the beam of sunlight coming in through the warped glass of the antique windows. I sweep them into the baby blue metal dustpan, circa 1960.

Sylvia has so many cool old things, I wonder if she has any idea how much some of these things are worth? It’s nice of her to trust us with them all. I wonder if I could ever be that trusting with strangers.

“Hey Cass, now that we got this all cleaned up, let’s take a shot and read Bron’s message. Maybe it will be better than Brad’s. Who knows? Maybe he’s got something good to say.”

“Ok, but no getting upset if he’s just another jerk, Rainy. You must stop taking rejection so personally and realize that sometimes, other people just have their own issues making them act unkind, ok? Ok? Rainy! Are you listening to me?”
