I hurry out to the parking lot outside of the precinct and see my car sitting happily in its rightful spot. After spending the past few hours daydreaming at my desk and hardly getting anything done, it is finally time to clock out of the office and leave. I ducked out of the office a little early with the Chief’s permission. 


There is a definite chill in the air as I step out the front door. The visible puff of air lingers in front of me for a moment, leaving a cloud that I walk through as I make my way to the car. As I step up to the door, I see a note under the windshield wiper. A smile tugs onto my lips and I pull it free from under the rubber stop. 


The note is from Nathaniel. I recognize his handwriting on the front instantly as well as the way he draws a small heart over the “I” in my name. I peal the envelope open and read the note inside.
