Rowan sat in her car and stared at the door, shaking so badly that the vehicle shook slightly. She felt breathless and weak as her mind began to race through every possible scenario that might have happened. The hopeful part of her mind tried to play it off as a simple case of her forgetting to shut it when Rowan left this morning. But she knew she wouldn't have done that, especially not now.


Burger whined slightly, sensing her abject fear. He stuck his head out the window just as a strong breeze blew at him. He breathed in deeply then let out a long, loud growl.


Before Rowan could stop him, Burger lept out of the car and raced towards the house. 


"Burger, come back!” Rowan shouted in terror.


She had no idea if the house was safe. For all she knew, there was a whole mob of people waiting for her to come in so they could capture her. She didn't even want to think what they would do to poor Burger.
