Go ahead and watch. Rowan thought to herself as she hung up on him. She turned to head back inside when her phone chimed again.
-I can find you anywhere you go.- he wrote once more.
Rowan didn't think he was lying. She just hoped she could stay two steps ahead of him.
Rowan slid the phone back into her pocket and headed back to the house. She was at the top step when she realized she wasn't alone. Skidding to a stop, Rowan slowly looked to the right at the porch to find a shadow standing there. A low growl at her side let her know that Burger was still with her. Her heart seemed to stop beating as she squinted, trying to see who was in the shadows. Dark, terrifying images of Mateo jumping out to grab her and take her away to make good on his promise.
-Who is it?- Rowan asked Burger.
Burger sniffed the air for a moment, then settled finally. -Cass-
Right as Burger said his name Cass moved out of the shadows. Rowan’s muscles began to relax, and air flowed out of her lungs again.
