Just before midnight Cass came and got Rowan from the grove and took her and Burger to the clifftop. Her first glimpse of the compound blew her mind. After reading the evidence that she had, Rowan had an idea how big Mateo's operation was. But seeing the reality of it was a whole different story. She knew just by looking at it that this was not a new operation; it had been going on for years.
Rowan was hurting for these people and horrified. She couldn’t imagine a person being so evil that they would willingly hurt so many lives. It pained her so much that she forgot to breathe for a moment.
“Rowan?” Cass called to her, seeing her distress.
As Rowan's knees gave way, Cass reached for her and helped her sit.
“Rowan!” he tried to get her attention.
“So many people,” Rowan whispered in horror.
“It’s okay. We’re gonna free those people. With your help, we’ll set all the captives free,” Cass reassured her.
