Chapter 19: Blaze

“Blaze?” Nico repeated, barely concealing a smirk. What a stupid name.

“Blaze Hutchinson,” she said, clenching her hands into fists on her lap. “He was handsome, and charming, and, as it turned out, rotten to the core.”

“What did he do?” Nico asked.

“He romanced me, and then he swindled me,” she said, shrugging, “and I was a gullible fool.”

“You don’t seem like the gullible type,” Nico objected.

“Well, I was when it came to him,” she said ruefully. “I didn’t think anything of it when he’d offer to go to the ATM and get cash for me. I didn’t have any qualms about leaving him alone in my apartment, where I had my purse and my important paperwork, while I ran to the store or went down to the laundry room. I didn’t realize he was stealing my social security number along with all my credit and debit card information.”
