Chapter 35: The Fight

Rebecca stared at him for a long moment, sure she’d misheard. “Excuse me?”

“Well, we can’t keep it,” Nico said, his tone matter-of-fact.

“Why not?” she asked incredulously.

Now it was his turn to stare. “I don’t want children, Rebecca. I thought that was clear.”

“You may not want children, but I’m pregnant,” she returned, anger slowly replacing her bewilderment.

“You can get un-pregnant,” he shot back.

She climbed off the bed and turned to face him. “And if I don’t want to?”

“I don’t want children!” he said angrily. “That’s why this was supposed to be a *pretend* marriage.”

“A pretend marriage with benefits, it seems,” she said, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

“That was an accident,” he mumbled, his cheeks reddening. “A... mistake.”

“A *mistake*?” Her jaw dropped. “You’ve been having sex with me every day for the last month and now you think it’s a *mistake*?”
