Chapter 43: Therapy

Anna Morgane shuffled her appointments around and began seeing Nico three times per week. The frequency was at his request, and he paid handsomely for it.

Gradually, he began to unlearn what had been drilled into his head so often as a child, and to realize the falsity of the negative perceptions he’d internalized after witnessing the contentious interactions between his parents.

As the days went by, his inner torment eased. On orders from his therapist, he made it a priority to eat regularly, even if he didn’t feel hungry. He stocked soups and protein shakes and other nutritious food and drink items he could eat or drink quickly in lieu of sitting down for an actual meal. He started gaining back the weight he’d lost, and as his diet improved, so did his sleep.

The deep breathing and meditation exercises she’d recommended helped relax him at night; he was able to clear his mind and go to sleep instead of constantly replaying tortured memories over and over in his brain.
