Chapter 49: The Surprise

Rebecca’s hands flew to her mouth as she stared at the room in wordless shock.

It had been transformed.

When she’d left the condo shortly before Christmas, it had been a basic, if unimaginative, guest room. White walls, a white armoire, a queen bed with a black wrought-iron frame and a white duvet. There had been a TV on the armoire, and a white nightstand with a small lamp, but otherwise there had been no pictures, no knickknacks, and no other decor.

But now...

The walls had been repainted a pale yellow. A wide, circular, fluffy white rug sat in the middle of the floor.

The bed was gone, and in its place was a white wooden crib with wide wooden slats and arched ends that were accented with ribbon molding. It was made up with yellow gingham sheets.

The white armoire was still there, but the TV wasn’t. Instead, the top of the armoire held a white noise machine and a pale yellow wicker basket filled with folded yellow-and-white cloths.
