Chapter 13

Zoey was relieved to see a lineup inside the ice cream parlor. "Maybe we should come back later," she suggested. "It looks busy."

Celeste frowned and turned to look Aunt Flory straight in the eyes. "We're getting ice cream, right? You promised me vanilla ice cream." Her gaze fell to her shoes. She hated confrontation.

Aunt Flory put an arm around Celeste's waist and guided her toward the storefront. "Of course we are, dear. And since you just did such a good job making eye contact, you can have a double scoop." She looked back at Zoey. "For heaven's sake, Zoey, why are you suddenly in such a big hurry? Why upset your sister?"

"Yeah, don't get your knickers in a knot," Ruby said, hanging behind Zoey. She looked over at the women and back at Zoey. "Why do you let them bother you? They're just nosy old crows with nothing better to do."

"I'm tired of being a sideshow," Zoey replied.

"What do you expect? We're the only triplets in town," Ruby said.
