"You don't have to remind me," Zoey said. "I promise." 'She didn't need to worry. Considering the serious accusations that Evelyn's tangle of lies had created, she had no intention of sticking her nose further into the Turnbull's business.'

Across the yard, she saw smoke rising above the house. Remembering the leaf-burning ceremony, Zoey quickened her pace across the lawn. As she rounded the corner, she saw Dr. Tanner talking to Aunt Flory.

"There you are," Aunt Flory cried. "Where did you wander off to? I swear it's impossible to keep the three of you in one place."

"I went inside for a minute," Zoey lied.

"And Ruby claims Celeste's the one who gets distracted," she clucked.
