Chapter 30: Time

If I could, I wouldn’t ever want to know the future. Looking that far ahead of where I am would ruin the mystery of it all, the spontaneous. I would have to follow steps every day to make sure that what I know comes to pass, not something that’s a complete stranger.

That’s too much power in my hands, too much responsibility I know I wouldn’t be able to handle. When I or others would do something that would rip the future off course, I would be left to fix it, glue the pieces back together until it’s better. A temporary or permanent bandage.

I’m glad Lucian was vague about his vision because I only know which direction is right. I know I won’t trip and hit the ground face first, bruised with consequences. I’m allowed to breathe, enjoy every last breath until the future taps my shoulder to tell me it’s ready.
