Chapter 28: Confronting a Murderer

Parker noticed that Lissa was wearing a scarf around her neck for the third day in a row. She was concerned that Drake was feeding off of her.

“Is that a new style, Lissa?” she asked, motioning to the scarf. It was their weekly lunch date, and both Lissa and Parker had agreed on no boyfriends.

It was the first lunch Parker had come to since Damien had broken up with her. She was still waiting for the inevitable heart-wrenching pain to kick in, but she’d mostly been feeling numb. She hadn’t even told Lissa yet.

“Oh, you know, just trying something new,” she said with a shrug.

Parker frowned, setting her sandwich down.

“Is everything okay?” she asked. “Drake is treating you alright?”

Parker knew that a scarf could conceal bite marks from a vampire. If Drake was hurting Lissa in some way, Parker wanted to know. It was a weird situation to be in with her friend. Lissa didn’t know she knew about vampires and Parker didn’t know if Lissa knew about vampires.
