Chapter 41: Darkness

“What are you doing here?” Lucien snarled at Drake. Parker self-consciously pulled the covers up around her body. Her cheeks were red, thinking that Drake had witnessed her recent humiliation.

“I thought it was time for us to have a chat,” Drake said. He stepped through Lucien’s open window into the house. “Face to face.”

Parker’s blood ran cold.

“How did you…” Lucien trailed off. He looked at Parker, his eyes wild.

“Mom!” Parker cried. She jumped out of the bed and ran down the stairs and out onto the porch. She could see Malakai and her mother sitting on her front porch.

Her heart pounding in her chest, Parker raced across the cold, wet grass, Lucien’s pajama pants soaking up the water.

When she reached the steps, Parker stopped dead. Her breath caught in her throat and immediately, her knees started to tremble. She’d never seen anything like it before, but it wasn’t the sight that got to her, it was the smell.
