Chapter 49: Spared

Parker was certain she was about to die. She waited for Caelus to deliver the killing blow, but it never came.

Opening one eye, Parker looked up at the vampire that had a grip on her. He looked surprised. His mouth was hanging half-open. His fingers on her face felt weird, and she realized it was because they were turning to dust.

Pulling back, Parker watched as Caelus’s whole body began to disintegrate into dust. His arms first, floating up into the air, the rest of his body disintegrating quickly. Parker scooted back against the wall, pressing her back flat.

As Caelus drifted away, Parker saw Damien behind him, a stake in his hand.

Parker jumped up with a cry of relief. She ran through the remaining dust flakes of Caelus and threw herself at Damien. He grunted, catching her and taking a half step back to keep his balance.

Tightening her arms around his neck, Parker kissed his cheek over and over again.
