Chapter 48: The Fight

Caelus was imposing. Even sitting in his wheelchair, he was almost as tall as Parker. She eyed him carefully, his long fingers curling around the wheels of the wheelchair, pushing at the spokes to move across the room.

His blond hair was cut short like a soldier’s and he wore a red cape over antique armor. It was such a clichéd villain look that Parker nearly rolled her eyes. She refrained, not wanting to upset him too soon.

Caelus cocked his head to the side at Parker.

“How interesting,” he said, studying her up and down. Parker cringed, tightening her hand on her stake.

“What?” she asked. She looked at Damien for support, but Damien appeared frozen in place. His lips were tight, jaw tensed. Even though his eyes were open, Parker saw that they were glazed over, like he wasn’t seeing the room around him.

“I always knew my boys were smart and devious, but to turn you into a vampire right under my nose,” Caelus said with a chuckle that sent a shiver down Parker’s spine.
