FIRST DAY AT WORK(PART ONE)

Emmanuel stood in front of the mirror looking at himself in the black T-shirt and charcoal gray trousers. He still looked charming even in that casual wear. His russet brown hair was neatly combed to the side. He wore his sneakers and stepped out of his room.

He descended the stairs and headed to the dining room where his family was already seated. His dad was seated at the head of the table and his older sister sat to the right of his dad.

Emmanuel's mother passed away when he and his sister were very little and they had been living with their dad in this big house since then.

Neriel, Emma's older sister was the first to comment on his attire today.

He had already told his family about his part-time job and they did not stop him from doing what he wanted to do.

"This attire really looks good on you, you should really wear more of these." Neriel complimented him.

"I know right," he responded with a grin on his face and sat next to his father facing Neriel.

"Are you starting work today?"Mr. Wales asked his son.

"Yes, Dad" he replied.

Mr. Wales just nodded and got back to his food.

Emmanuel filled his plate and started eating as well.

When he was done, he stood up from his seat and got ready to leave.

"See you soon" he waved at them.

"See you soon,son."Mr. Wales waved back.

"Good luck on your first day at work, don't cause any trouble, "Neriel told him and Emmanuel kissed her cheek.

"You know I won't sis"Emma replied and headed out. The driver took him to the Breckley's mansion where he would pick up Sylvester.

...

Sylvester and his parents sat at the dining table having their breakfast. Sylvester wore clothes similar to Emma's. He was wearing an ash T-shirt over black trousers.

Sylvester's parents were of course galled by the kind of clothes their son was wearing but they did well to hide it from him.

As they sat eating,Mrs.Rose remembered something and parted her lips to speak.

"We were sent an invitation letter for a birthday celebration at the Evestons tonight."she said calmly."It's their little daughter's birthday and they want us to attend."

"Hmm..I don't think I'll be able to make it to the party tonight, there will be some clients coming over today to the factory to discuss some business and there's still a lot of work to be done so I'll be coming home late from work. I'm sorry I can't make it." Mr.Joshua relayed to his wife." but do send my regards to the Evestons and tell them why I'm unable to attend."

Mrs.Rose just nodded understandingly to her husband and"Alright,I will...."was all she said in response.

She averted her gaze to her son who seemed insouciant in attending the birthday celebration they were talking about.

"No mom, I'm not interested in attending any party"Sylvester blurted out in a nonchalant tone even before his mom could say anything.

"You'll have to accompany me, since your dad's not coming, Sylvester."

Still, Sylvester did not concede to his mother's words.

"Sylvester, you would have to go with your mom. We can't have her go to the party all by herself" Mr. Joshua butted in.

After a short period of silence, Sylvester lifted his gaze and it fell on both of his parents who were already looking at him, their eyes holding a glint of expectancy.

A small sigh escaped Sylvester's lips and he finally said what his parents wanted to hear.

"Alright, I'll go with Mom....but don't expect anything more."

"It's okay, you accompanying me is more than enough son," his mom said and continued with her food.

While they were still eating, Sylvester heard the honk of a car outside the mansion. He immediately figured that it was Emma.

"Emmanuel is here. I'll get going" Sylvester said and stood up.

"Is Emmanuel working part-time too?"Mrs.Rose was the one to ask.

"Oh...It must have slipped my mind but we applied for the job together."Sylvester replied and he headed out of the dining room.

"I can't believe we're letting our son go to that place and moreover to work as a part-timer."Mrs.Rose said in a disgusted tone once Sylvester had left."Did you see the clothes he was wearing? We can't just sit around and watch him besmirch the name and reputation we've built for the past years."

"Definitely. I'll be sure to do something about it" Mr. Joshua said reassuring his wife.

"I can't also fathom why Mr.Wales would allow his son to take up this endeavor...it's frustratingly confusing."

"Hmm..."Mr.Joshua just hummed at his wife's words.

Sylvester stepped out of the mansion and headed towards the car that was parked outside.

Robert, the driver was sitting in the driver's seat, and Emma was in the back seat. Sylvester joined Emma in the back seat and they drove away.

"Told them already?"Emmanuel said breaking the silence.

It didn't take long for Sylvester to catch on to what he was saying.

"Yeah, I did" he responded.

"Must have been a heated conversation."

"Surprisingly it wasn't, they agreed quite too soon."

Emmanuel's eyes widened slightly at Sylvester's words, then his eyes narrowed at Sylvester.

"That's quite unusual of them."

"Thought same too."

It didn't take long for the duo to reach Mr.Wilfred's shop.

"Good morning Mr.Wilfred." they both greeted when they entered the shop and spotted Mr.Wilfred.

Mr.Wilfred adjusted the glasses that were resting on the bridge of his nose and cleared his throat. His eyes took in the attires they were in which made them look less intimidating and posh.

"Good morning. You're in early"came his hoarse voice.

"What can we say, we're very committed people," Emma said with a small smile.

"Alright then, let's get started before the customers come in."Mr.Wilfred said and started to show them how to go about their job.

He showed them how to use the coffee maker, how to relate to customers, and all the other stuff. Mr.Wilfred did not only sell coffee but sold some few others like burgers, fries, smoothies, etcetera. Two ladies helped him with those, as Emma and Sylvester helped with the coffee and the other beverages.
