This! This is the sound of gunfire!
Where is it coming from? I can't tell since the sound is echoing down here. Still, I have to find it quick or…
Shit!
"Mia!" I called out to her loudly as I ran through the hallway; this was a big passage with cobblestone walls.
'Uriel, find out from which direction this sound is coming quickly.'
I did this again! Even after what happened with Carol and the others! I decided that I will work alone from now on, ahhhhh! Why did I bring Mia here?
I knew that they might have guns, I knew this could be dangerous, I knew but then also, why?
'Just hold on for a while Mia, and please don't die!'
Following Uriel's command, I ran straight for a while till a turn came and I turned left; the passageway was narrow here but there was enough space for me to pass through.
Without wasting I single second I ran, I ran and ran and ran and ran. I want to enhance my speed with mana but unfortunately, that won't be possible here. The paths are narrow and small; I will crash into the walls if I'm too fast.
The narrow pathway ended and a wooden gate came into sight; there were two lamps hung on both sides of the door on the wall, illuminating the area with a yellow glow.
I hurriedly ran to the door and pushed it open, and what came in sight sent shivers down my spine. There was…well, this is horrifying.
Just what in the world goes on here!
In this room…there are corpses of elves and humans. Their limbs are separated from their bodies, some bodies are even cut into pieces; the floor is colored in the shade of crimson with blood.
I was unable to move a muscle at the moment I saw this sight. Even when I have [Placid Mind] to keep my mental condition stable this sight gave me a major shock, it scared me to be honest.
'Uriel, is the right way?'
This world is cruel, I absolutely do not want to go through this room but the situation at hand is forcing me to do so.
Gathering all of my willpower I took a step inside the room and began walking forward; there was another door in front, probably the exit to this room.
I want to run and get this over quickly but I will likely slip on their guts and blood. The eyes of these dead people were looking at me, their eyeballs were wide open like they were about to come out.
No, the eyeballs of some people were out of their eye sockets. Dead bodies were spread on the floor like a carpet; the smell here was so disgusting that most of the time I held my breath.
"Huh?" I suddenly stopped; something was keeping my right leg from moving.
I do not like this feeling!
I turned around to see what it was and... I just froze there after I saw it.
Someone…someone among the dead was holding my leg with their hand, someone was alive.
"Hey! Hey are you alive," I said aloud as I sat on my knees to see who it was.
The person who held my leg was buried under a small mountain of corpses; I held his arm and checked his pulse.
He was alive. But then as I was about to use healing magic on him the pulse died out.
"Hey wait! I can save you just bare with it for a second!" I shouted; I pulled him through his arm and tried to get him out of there while using healing magic at the same time.
"Ah!" I fell on my back.
He didn't come out; instead, his arm got separated from the body.
"Ahhhhhhhh!" I screamed and threw that arm away.
"This…this is too much for me," I said to myself as I stood up and ran to the exit door.
I reached the door and slammed it open.
This was so intense; the mental pressure was too much. I would have passed out right then and there if I didn't have [Placid Mind].
Gasping, I continued moving forward. The sounds of metal clashing and gunfire could be heard a lot clearer now, they sure are in this hallway.
I just hope that the person Mia is fighting is not their boss.
This hallway had a bit more space than the others so I used mana to enhance my speed.
—CLANK!
She came into sight and judging from the looks she does not look fine. Mia's fighting with someone and that person definitely has a gun.
"Mia," I called out to her as I stopped near.
"You…you are late," was the first thing she said.
She was not fine, not even a bit. She was shot with bullets in her arms and legs, it seems like she was avoiding a fatal hit from a bullet by deflecting it with her sword; it was all thanks to her skills that she is alive right now.
"Hmmm, looks like someone has joined our party," said a man; he was the person she was fighting with. When I got a closer look at him he looked like a man in his mid-twenties who had brown hair and covered himself in a leaf-green cloak.
And the most important thing was that he has guns with him. I could see a pistol attached to his belt while he was holding—what looked like a sub-machine gun.
"Good good, I don't have any problem. It will be more fun," he said with a creepy and disgusting grin.
"Sorry but we don't have much time in hand so I will finish you quickly," I said while taking steps forward. I stopped after a certain distance and stood in front of Mia.
"Hahahaha, you are a funny one I see," he said loudly before he pressed the trigger of the sub-machine gun he held in his hand.
The gun started firing rounds of bullets aimed at me and Mia, and the sounds of gunfire echoed in the whole area.
"Hahaha, did you like that," he said as he continued to laugh while firing.
Then the magazine in his gun went empty and the firing stopped, there were a great number of bullet shells on the floor.
"Huh?" he acted a bit surprised.
Though it was completely obvious to me, the bullets didn't hit me or Mia. They were blocked by my barrier; I knew he was going to do this that's why I stood in front of Mia to take her under the range of the barrier.
"Didn't I say we don't have much time to waste," I mocked.
"I'm going to kill you, I saw what you did in *that* room. No…even if you were not the one who did that, the fact that you sided with the person who did that is enough to convince me for killing you," I said as I took a few steps forward.
"But just tell me one thing before that, how did you get these guns?" he was of no use once I get this information.
"Oh? So you know what these are, could it be that you are the same as me?" he asked with a hint of curiosity on his face.
"I see, so you're the same. Were you sent here by the gods?" I questioned him while I kept in mind not to use any word that can reveal that I'm a reincarnate to Mia.
It won't cause any major problem but I want to avoid useless arguments.
"Gods huh, yes, if I remember correctly I did meet one," said the man while he scratched his head.
"Oh I see, thank you for providing me with information. Now I have no use for you," I said while I stretched out my right hand toward him.
"Fifth-tier magic: [Fire control]."
Huge flames emerged from the ground and swallowed the man inside them; I had set the temperature of these flames a bit high than the normal ones. The cobblestone in the walls also started melting by the heat.
After I while the flames went off leaving behind the burnt body of that man.
'Was he all talk? Well, you can't do much just because you have guns.'
"Hahaha, this is good, it's interesting," the man who was supposed to be dead said.
What!
His body started regenerating from scratch, it repaired itself and in no time he was standing there just fine like nothing happened.
