The villagers agreed to tempt the berry pickers.
Mari had enough, she had to intervene before something far worse than death occurred.
"Don't worry ladies, I'm here for you." Whispered Mari.
Those words were from a deep level in Mari's heart, but unfortunately that whisper woke up the rabbit that she was still holding in her palm.
"Uh-good morning." Whispered Mari.
The rabbit that was fluffy and cute was now starting to be the downfall for Mari in this situation.
The rabbit jumped out of her hands and into a window where all the villagers had gathered.
"Who's there?" Asked Lan.
Lan heard the rabbit sneak into the house first. It seemed like she was well versed in relying on her senses, but not well enough to detect a fatigued Mari just nearby.
"Gah- this rabbit bit me!" Said a villager.
It was at this moment that Mari was experiencing a falter in her senses, the overwhelming sense of danger was surrounding the house she was sneaking around.
"Everybody get that damn little thing." Said Hurok.
It was too late, something else was brewing while the rabbit was going wild.
"Help me!" Yelled a villager.
One of the villagers that were bitten by the rabbit turned into a low level undead, this was something that Mari had dealt with in dungeon clearing for a while.
"Hmm- this plague devours nature and turns living things into undead servants." Thought Mari.
It was only seconds after the first bite turned into a large breakout. Villagers were eating each other and Hurok and Lan were cornered besides the window that Mari was peering into.
Hurok and Lan were about to make a break for the window and Mari saw this. She was just noticed when she stood up to greet the two villagers.
"I'm sorry but this is where you say goodbye to each other." Said Mari as she pushed the two villagers into the house before they could escape.
Hurok and Lan looked at each other. They both knew this was the end for them. They had fallen into the ground from Mari and her outrageous strength. The two villagers Hurok and Lan, were lovers. They held hands and looked deeply into each others eyes.
Lan bit her lip and teared up.
"I'm sorry my love. I thought this was the place we could raise our little one." Said Hurok.
Hurok was also saddened by the outcome of their actions. In this moment he had wished for a second chance to live a better life next to the woman he loved more than anything. If he had the chance to do it over again he would have preferred a small cabin in the middle of nowhere.
Those were the last images Hurok imagined as the villagers swarmed the two lovers.
"They did this first. I can't think about the possibility of not doing and what should have happened. They did this themselves." Said Mari.
Mari was saddened as she was the one who pushed the two villagers to their untimely death. She had a strong will and mental fortitude so any internal discussion she had she was able to find some sort of resolve.
"The lot of you are sinners. Recognize this!" Yelled Mari.
The house full of low level undead servants stopped as they heard Mari scream at them.
"Pay for your sins!" Yelled Mari.
She had every right to yell out her feelings like this. She had witnessed the kidnapping of unsuspecting ladies and overheard the torment they would put on them if they were able to continue.
The words that came from Mari was as strong as her will and had resonated with the dark energy surrounding her.
"Gah-" the undead villagers moaned.
The house of undead servants were turning on each other. They stopped as soon as they had finished turning the living into the undead but as Mari was yelling at them they decided to turn on each other.
It was only a few moments but during those few moments the house of living villagers turned into a bloodbath. The walls were splattered with blood and the rotten smell of copper was tightly packed within.
Mari was the one watching this all go down and decided that no matter what they would have to pay the price for their actions.
"This is good. Don't stop!" Yelled Mari.
The murderous intent behind her words also carried dark energy that was surrounding her.
The undead villagers in the house killed each other by ripping off limbs and biting the skull until either one died or the jaw of one was completely shattered.
Skin, bones, and limbs were scattered everywhere. There was one last undead hidden inside the mountain of remains.
The last undead climbed the mountain of remains and stood there looking at Mari.
"Pay for your sins!" Yelled Mari.
The undead villager knelt between its own legs and used its uncanny strength to sever its head completely off with its spine completely intact.
In front of Mari was a house full of human remains that were living beings once. Mari didn't know this but this was not an illusion. This was something completely different than what she expected. The trial was called an illusion because of the distortion of facts about this place. This was the case that she would figure out far into the future.
"Good riddance." Said Mari.
Mari had expanded a large amount of dark energy for the first time. She felt that her words had the will of her energy but was so focused on the act of justice that she ignored it.
Her body was far exceeding the normal limit of fatigue and now had to deal with a large amount of stamina running out from her body.
"Ugh!" Yelled Mari.
She was getting sick of this constant uneasy fatigue. Although she was hating every moment she had to stay awake she knew she couldn't succumb to her tiredness. If she had done so then the death of her husband Kai would be on her hands.
