Chapter 48: The Decision

Ivy paced around the oval conference room at the Exodus Resort. She had given herself mental lectures, screamed into a pillow, and cried during the past two hours until she had no more tears to cry.

Her grandmother had been right, crying solved nothing. Her crying had not brought Andrew back. The closet was still empty, and Andrew’s clothes were still gone, and so was he. She had wiped her face with a wet towel and ran an ice cube under her eyes to take care of any puffiness the crying had caused.

“Are these all the accounting books?” Ivy asked the young secretary who had brought another pile of books to the conference. The young secretary swallowed visibly hard and nodded. Ivy was going to bury herself in work and do a bit of auditing. Jane, Kim, and her guests were out doing some exercises and some couples building games.

“Bring me some coffee. Black with no sugar!” Ivy told the secretary who hurriedly left the room seeming only too pleased to be far away from Ivy’s scrutiny.
